In this video comparison I compare the four hottest DSLR's on the market. This test is best used to judge ISO noise in natural light. For sharpness the Canon 5D's had their sharpness levels at 0. The Nikon D800 was set at "3" on a scale from 1-9. The Nikon D4 was set at "4" on a scale from 1 to 9. A low-light version of this ISO test will be coming shortly. This was designed to be an in-depth tutorial on how-to connect and use the Celestron Sky-Watcher Motorized Pan & Tilt head (aka. Merlin Head) with the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero Dolly and MX2 Controller.
The tutorial takes you step-by-step through the hardware connections and the steps you need to take to get the MX2 controller set up - all the way through to starting a motion time-lapse.
A big thank you goes out to all the folks that have posted information on the Timescapes.org forums as well as help from Dynamic Perception in getting the information that allowed me to put this tutorial together.

there is so much you can say with each image but how do you make the most out of it? we often talk about layers in a film and color is a powerful storytelling tool that can completely change the look and feel of a piece. in this tutorial we look at color in camera as we go through white balance, white shift, picture styles along with some tips and tricks on how to use them to say something with your image straight out of the camera.
there is so much to say about color so we decided to split it up into two tutorials, in camera and in post. all footage shown in this tutorial is straight out of the camera with no post color work. check back soon for part two of the color tutorial, color in post, later this month.

Instead of rushing a review I decided to spend a little over 3 weeks with the Zacuto EVF Pro before writing about it. During this time we used it to film three weddings and have really become comfortable using the EVF in our every day shooting. This 'long-winded' overview will give you a better look at the EVF Pro, some of the ways I have configured it over the past few weeks, how it works with an articulating arm, Zacuto DSLR Baseplate matched up with the EVF Standard Mount, and Z-Finder Pro 2.5x Loupe.
Eye-Fi has introduced a new "Direct Mode" feature that allows their Wi-Fi SDHC memory cards to directly send images to mobile phones or iPad's without the need for a router.
This review / overview shows how to set up the card and iPad to get this feature working and also goes over a few things that you need to watch out for.
Eye-Fi has introduced a new "Direct Mode" feature that allows their Wi-Fi SDHC memory cards to directly send images to mobile phones or iPad's without the need for a router.
While Eye-fi has no plans to introduce a compactflash version of this card, in this video I'll demonstrate how to use the Eye-Fi Pro X2 card and SD-CFII Adapter with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II to send .jpg images direct to your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Also, I have had mixed results using the Eye-fi Software for the iPhone / iPad. It often looses it's Wi-Fi connection to the mobile device, which then forces you to not only re-select the Wi-Fi option, but also forces you to close and re-open the app in order to get the information flowing again. I also had some issues with card errors in the camera when I was 'burst' shooting. I found that if I formatted the card in the camera before using it, the chance of card errors were reduced. I mention this to let you know that this is not be a reliable option for professional use. But for those that would like the convenience of sending images from a 5DMKII to their computer or mobile device - wirelessly - this will work.

Unlike other web-enabled devices such as the new Apple TV or Google TV, the WD TV Live Hub also feature a large 1 TB hard drive built-in, which allows media playback without needing an internet connection. The only purpose-designed LCD Viewfinder for Canon 550D/T2i.
LCDVF is the missing link of this hybrid "photovideography" era. The essential accessory, an absolute necessity that enables todays photographers to take advantage of the video features of the new generation DSLR cameras like Canon 550D/T2i.
LCD Viewfinder turns your video enabled DSLR LCD screen into a huge electronic viewfinder for precise image evaluation - it’s like viewing a 42" screen from 140cm (4.6 feet).
Sleek, powder coated carbon steel mounting interface doesn’t block the proximity sensor and allows easy cleaning of the LCD screen. This thin but powerful mounting interface also maintains the button clearance for comfortable camera operation.

About a month ago I posted a review of the JAG35 Full 'offset' Shoulder Rig. Today I have posted this video review of the new JAG35 Straight Shoulder Rig. While the offset shoulder rig is ideal for users of DSLR's with Z-Finders or other loupes, the straight shoulder rig is designed for use with traditional camcorders that feature side-mounted LCD displays as well as DSLR's when used with an external monitor.
This review also previews a few new accessories that are not yet available on the JAG35 website. First, are the long rod handles, which makes it more comfortable to hold the weight of your gear for longer periods as well as allow for great low-angle ground shots. The second is a new JAG35 Cage with quick-release slide-out plate, which makes it easy to add or remove your camera from the Cage. Hopefully by the time this QR plate makes it to market, JAG35 will have added a 1/4-20 to its base for use on top of other gear.
The review also talks about the JAG35 7" Monitor, which JAG35 sent us for this review. If you have any questions please post them here and I'll do my best to answer them.
P.S. This video review was shot using the new Sony NEX-VG10 APS-C camcorder with 18-200mm removable lens. Review coming soon on this camcorder.
This unboxing video was my first hands-on with the camera, thus this is NOT a review, but I do try to give you a first-look and overview of the camera - at least the information I can remember from reading about it.
(Updated) I just used the Sony NEX-VG10 this afternoon to capture some footage and it definitely didn't take a lot of time to get used to the functionality of the camera. In the field I couldn't find anyway to control audio levels, so until I open the manual I will go on record as saying there doesn't seem to be any audio level control. The on-board microphone sounds awesome but it does pick up sound equally in all directions, which can be great or terrible depending on what it is you're trying to record.
The camera has a dedicated headphone jack, a big plus over the hybrid DSLR's on the market.

we've tried the merlin, pilot, flyer, and now the zephyr. across the line, the zephyr has got to be the easiest to setup, the most versatile unit to adjust in the field, the smoothest balanced, and a whole lotta fun.
Just to demonstrate how much fun it is, at the end of this clip we tried no hands operating and we were all so surprised with how smooth those shots came out.
There is a disclaimer on this clip - it was super windy while we were shooting but we didn't have another time to shoot, so we made the best of it. if you like these results, i imagine i could have gotten more out of it had the wind not been so strong.

Get a first look at the new Genus GVISTA Prism Viewfinder for DSLR's. What's unique about this item is that it attaches around your camera's 3" LCD screen and with the magic of mirrors allows you to view the screen from above, below or from the sides.
Review Conclusion:
This a great low-cost way of viewing your LCD when doing low slider / dolly shots with your HDSLR. When the need arises to shoot above the crowd just attach it in upside down and you'll be able to view it from below. At $39.95 this is a pretty cheap piece of gear to have along side your Canon EOS 7D, Rebel T2i, EOS 5D Mark II, 1D Mark IV, Nikon D5000, D90, D300s or D3s.
When mine arrived two of the mirror inserts were loose and needed to be glued back in place. Also, each viewfinder comes in their own protective hard case, but the viewfinders are square and rather bulky, so they will eat us space in your gear bag. But for $40 why complain.

This skateboard music video was shot using the 5D Mark II and the Humble Monkey Camera Truck. Special thanks to the Rye Airfield in Rye, NH for permission to shoot - and on such short notice.
The Humble Monkey is a portable camera truck designed to give the cinematographer the ability to do virtually any length dolly / tracking shot without a track.
My immediate opinion of the Humble Monkey is that is serves a particular niche in the marketplace since it sits low to the ground and requires a very smooth surface for best results.
I am spending the next week taking the Humble Monkey out and about to discover new places and ways to use it.
In this video I took the Humble Monkey to a local tennis court in hopes of finding the local tennis team practicing. Unfortunately, tennis players were a no show so I created a very quick video using the iPhone to give you guys a quick preview.
Test notes: Footage from the Humble Monkey was shot using the Canon 5D Mark II with Sigma 20mm f/1.8 lens. Aperture was set at approx. f/11 or f/13 in order to keep the shutter to 1/60th. I plan to revisit the tennis courts with a stabilized 24-105mm lens to see if the image stabilization will help with some of the vibration from variances in the surface.

I stumbled across this item while shopping at the local wholesale club. The Coleman QUAD Lantern is a 4-panel LED lighting system then when attached to the

This is the a full video ISO comparison comparing the new Canon EOS Rebel T2i with the Canon EOS 7D.
Note 1: It was mentioned in the video that the EOS 7D's autofocus has 29-points. This is not the case. The EOS 7D features a 19-point (all cross-type) autofocus system compared to the EOS Rebel T2i which features a 9-point AF system with just one center cross-type sensor for use with lenses that are f/2.8 or faster.
Note 2: The EOS 7D looked quite a bit more saturated on the LCD display compared to the Rebel T2i, however the actual saturation on both camera's were very similar.
Based on the limited testing inside my house it looks like both cameras are pretty comparable from ISO 100 - 1600 with the EOS 7D handling noise better at ISO 3200 and ISO 6400. The EOS 7D also looks like it might have maybe a 1/4-stop advantage in brightness at the identical settings. This seems consistent with my test that I did a while back when I compared the 5D Mark II with the 7D - the 7D looking to be a bit over exposed despite the exposure meter showing a middle exposure.

And here's where things get crazy -- the T1i's video capture mode is almost exactly the same as the 5D Mark II, short of 10 extra frames per second at 1080p made possible by the 5D's beefier processing power. But still, shooting at 720p will serve most people just fine (and it's as high as you can go on Nikon's D90, keep in mind). You do notice the lower framerate at 1080p, especially if you're panning a shot, but for slow-moving subjects, it's not significantly jerky. Some people may even prefer the ability to switch-up frame rates. Posted by Username: Babymick on YouTube
