Canon EOS Rebel T2i Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.02 (out of 10)
Review Summary: The announcement of the new Canon EOS Rebel T2i came as a surprise for most of the industry. While we were expecting a refresh of the Rebel T1i, we weren't expecting the feature set than Canon packed into the new compact Rebel T2i. Before getting into my thoughts on the camera I wanted to post the list of new noteworthy features that are available in the Rebel T2i. (See full review) ...

If the main reason you were considering the EOS 7D was for the great video capabilities of the camera and not for the photographic features, then I would definitely recommend that you to consider the Rebel T2i as an alternative. The extra $900 spent on the 7D will not give you any real noticeable benefit with regard to video quality, at least at the ISO settings you're likely to use (up to ISO 1600). ..."

Review (Summary): "The Canon EOS 550D is a difficult product to categorize. Ostensibly designed to appeal to first-time DSLR buyers and enthusiasts, it offers a lot more technology, and at a higher price, than we might expect for a camera aimed squarely at this sector. ...

All in all, the EOS 550D is the most compelling DSLR of its class that we've ever tested. It is hard to imagine how much more we might realistically expect from a product of this type, and although the improvements that Canon has made over the EOS 500D aren't revolutionary, the 550D is a better camera than its predecessor. ..."

Review (Summary): "Announced at the beginning of February, the 18-megapixel Canon EOS 550D (marketed as the EOS Rebel T2i in North America) is the successor to last year’s 15-megapixel 500D / T1i. Putting aside the increase in pixel count, the 550D / T2i offers a 1,040,000-dot LCD screen with an aspect ratio of 3:2, a 63-zone metering sensor - identical to the one used in the higher-specified EOS 7D ...

The Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i is a solid mid-range camera whose main virtue is that it allows you to capture incredibly detailed photos without ever getting in the way or spoiling the fun of picture taking. ..."

Review (Summary): "Externally the EOS 550D / T2i greatly resembles its predecessor with similar dimensions, weight, build, styling and controls, but as Canon tradition dictates, it inherits a number of key aspects from a higher-end model in the range (in this case the EOS 7D), along with at least one brand new feature. ...

Canon's EOS 550D / Rebel T2i is a very impressive DSLR which redefines what we can expect from the upper entry-level category. Just five months on from the high-end EOS 7D, the EOS 550D / T2i delivers essentially the same image quality and flexible movie modes at half the price. ..."

Review (Summary): "Sporting an 18-megapixel sensor similar to the 7D, the Canon Rebel T2i doesn't shoot quite as fast as its big brother, but its frame rate is slightly increased over the T1i, from 3.4 to 3.7 frames per second despite the resolution increase. A new 3:2 ratio LCD also changes the dimensions of the new camera, which now has 1.04 million dots of resolution.

Resolution was incredible, and detail is clean. Even as ISO goes up, more detail is retained than we're used to seeing. Indeed, the Canon T2i's entire ISO range produced a usable image size, with ISO 100 shots easily making sharp 20x30-inch prints, ISO 3,200 shots making sharp 11x14-inch prints, and ..."
