Review (Summary): "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 ($499) is a super zoom camera that uses a CMOS sensor, rather than the CCD typically found on compact cameras. This 9.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor allows the HX1 to perform all kinds of tricks, including 10 frame/second continuous shooting, HD movie recording, a unique "sweep panorama" feature, and more. ...
... the DSC-HX1's image quality is disappointing. Like Sony's other recent point-and-shoot cameras, the HX1 suffers from too much noise reduction. This smudges low contrast details such as grass, hair, trees, sand, and water, and also gives the image as a whole a soft, fuzzy appearance...."

| Review (Summary): "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 is the company's first digital camera to be based around its new high-speed 1/2.4-inch 9.1-megapixel EXMOR CMOS image sensor. The sensor is coupled to a Sony G-branded 20x optical zoom, offering a whopping range from a useful 28mm wide angle to a far-reaching 560mm telephoto equivalent. ...
... Sony continues to do an excellent job with dynamic range. Since the first Bionz image processors and Dynamic Range Optimization, I've been impressed with how Sony digicams handle dynamic range. It's common to see highlights simply blown out and shadow detail submerged. But not with DRO. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 is a powerful, but expensive ultrazoom camera that shoots decent pictures and good looking video, as well as being able to take very attractive night shots and panoramas without the usual hassle. ...
... you do get a lot for your money with the HX1; you get a decent zoom lens and good video quality, and the panorama and low light modes are the cherry on the cake that make it an attractive package for the point-and-shooter who wants a bit more." |

| Review (Summary): "... the HX1, features a 20x lens (that extends from 28mm at the wide end all the way to 560mm at the telephoto end), HD video recording, a large 3' tilting LCD screen, up to 10 frames per second continuous shooting speeds, and special shooting modes that help you get better pictures easier. All this built around an all-new CMOS sensor. ...
... Looking at the market as a whole, with an emphasis on image quality, we just cannot give the Sony DSC-HX1 our highest recommendation, but it's certainly worth consideration if you're looking for a superzoom compact and can live with the inevitable image quality compromises...." |
