Epson Stylus Photo R2880 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.14 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "Today Epson announces the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 A3+ printer, a direct replacement for the much loved R2400. The R2880 is aimed at the (Semi) - Pro and Advanced Amateur who doesn't need a high volume output printer, but still wants to use a wide variety of media types and produce high quality B/W prints The R2880 boasts an impressive list of new features and specifications, that should satisfy a broad user base ...

... The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 is without doubt an excellent printer that will produce high quality photographs with the minimum amount of technical knowledge from the user, what more can you ask from a printer. I love the features and design of the R2880, it does everything that I would ever want a printer to do, i.e. produce photographs that look and feel like photographs. ..."

Printerville has reviewed the new Epson Stylus R2880. They acknowledge that the R2880 enters a more competitive market in 2008 than its predecessor, the R2400, did in 2005. While the printer retains the need to swap out photo black for matte black when switching to matte paper it does add a host of new features that help to differentiate it. They conclude that "If Epson had eliminated the cartridge-swapping issue with this printer, it would be a nearly perfect product; as it is, it's a remarkable printer with one significant drawback."

Review (Summary): "Epson has set the bar high for inkjet printing for quite some time and one wonders how long the company can continue raising that bar. While the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 may not be as revolutionary as some of Epson’s past contributions, the company’s latest 13-inch printer definitely improves upon its predecessors in both underlying technology and final output. ...

... To get straight to the point: the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 makes stunning prints. Colors are rich and accurate and thanks, in large part, to the vivid magenta ink, reds, blues and purples are more vibrant than prints made on the R2400. ..."

Review (Summary): "The Epson R2880 features a couple of very welcome enhancements that bring the printer up to the same output quality as the larger 4880, 7880, and 9880 models. The most obvious of these is the replacement of the standard magenta inks with the newest Vivid Magenta and Vivid Light Magenta. These new formulations increase the color accuracy and gamut of the printer, especially in blues and purples. The black and white mode of printing is also improved with better neutrality and virtually no metamerism, and the printer now includes support for printing directly to CD/DVD media. ...

... The increase in dMax, while subtle, makes the already solid black and white performance even better. Combined with the lack of metamerism, this printer should be at the top of your list in the 13"x19" size. ..."

Preview (Summary): "Last week Epson quietly announced the arrival of their new R2880 A3+ pigment ink photo printer. I have since been able to see in action, this successor to Epson's much-praised R2400 and talk to Epson people about the new printer's improvements and capabilities.

...The R2880 is optimized for high quality grey scale printing as well as wide gamut color printing, especially on fine art papers and its eight ink slots sacrifice the R1900’s gloss optimizer for an extra black (read: grey) ink. ..."
