HP Photosmart 8750 Printer Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.23 (out of 10)
The HP Photosmart 8750 is HP's new top-of-the-range A3+ / 19x13 inch sized inkjet printer. The HP 8750 is a 9 colour inkjet printer that allows you to print colour and black and white borderless photos at up to 4800x1200-optimized dpi. When used with the HP Photosmart 8750, the new HP 101 Blue Photo Inkjet Print Cartridge is claimed to deliver noticeable improvements in images with intense blues, including landscapes, seascapes and sports photos. The HP 8750 also promises to produce truly neutral black and white prints by using a dedicated Grey Photo cartridge. Can the new kid on the block challenge the likes of Epson and Canon and become the A3 printer of choice? Read my review to find out.

Review: "There appears to be a sort of unwritten law which says wide carriage printers are used by graphics professionals, who pooh-pooh any of the light-hearted fripperies of their standard carriage counterparts. These are Real People, who don't need memory card slots, LCD displays or PictBridge sockets. Thank goodness HP realises the truth; that graphics professionals are more likely to be using digital cameras than most of the rest of us and are just as likely to want to print pictures from them, only bigger.

The Photosmart 8750 Professional is a very versatile printer, which can handle a wide variety of sizes and types of media. It produces very good print at reasonable costs and, unlike most of its main competitors, provides useful facilities for quick photo prints from cards and cameras. At the price, it has a lot going for it."

The HP 8750 A3 printer has finally arrived on our desk, albeit one or two months late. Due to the late arrival, the HP 8750 has missed out on a full interactive review from photo-i, but as this is such an important printer for HP, I have decided to bring forward an idea which I have been toying with for some time. This review will be in two parts, the first section will be in the form of a Quick time movie (7minutes 14 seconds), which will show some of the features of the 8750 printer. The second part will be our usual sample prints followed by a conclusion.

Black and white output is among the best I've seen from a inkjet printer, with good neutral prints easily handled by the included drivers. When printing on HP papers, the display life is estimated at 108 years-much longer than a traditional print would last! If you're a fan of fine-art paper the 8750 can handle these through a manual feed slot. The paper tray holds up to 50 sheets of photo or plain paper.
