Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P93 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 6.67 (out of 10)
This 5-megapixel, 3X optical zoom member of Sony's Cyber Shot budget line is, aside from its larger sensor, a clone of the 4-megapixel DSC-P73 and costs just a few dollars more. Snapshooters who want ease of use plus basic manual controls will find pretty much all they need in the compact DSC-P93--except great photo quality.

| Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-P93 is one of the latest in the long (and incredibly broad) line of digicams that reflect Sony's commanding position in the digicam marketplace. Sony's P-series digital cameras have been hugely popular in the compact and subcompact markets for some time now, and the P93 represents roughly the middle of this year's lineup, with a 5.1 megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens. Compared with last year's DSC-P92 model, this year's P93 offers a lot of enhanced features, even beyond the obvious increase in resolution. |

| The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P93 is billed as a point-and-shoot camera by Sony, however, its basic Menu structure is easy to navigate with plenty of manual control options to allow the user to comfortably move between Automatic and Manual control settings without concern. It has a 1.5 inch LCD screen, sleek rounded design, a 1 1/8 inch 5.1 MP CCD, which should guarantee higher image quality. It is capable of still images in several formats, along with video/audio clips. It is equipped with 3x optical zoom, direct print options, image presets, and burst mode shooting possibilities, making this a seemingly strong candidate in its US$329.95 price range. |

| The digital camera wars are heating up. In just the past five years, we've seen the technology go from a barely useable 680x460 to cameras which are challenging the 8 megapixel benchmark set by traditional film. Although the Sony CyberShot DSC-93 is only one among many quality cameras such as the HP PhotoSmart R707 and the Canon PowerShot S500 in this price point, this camera offers features which set it apart from the others |
