Olympus E-1 Digital SLR Review
|

Review Summary
Reader Score: 5.00 (out of 10)
The Olympus E-1 ($1799 street price, body only) marks the long-awaited debut of the FourThirds system, which was jointly developed by Olympus, Kodak, and Fujifilm. The FourThirds system was created from scratch, with the aim of being the first SLR designed for digital. The FourThirds system is a standard, so you'll be able to swap lenses and accessories between cameras.

| Olympus is an interesting company. They have been making high-quality 35mm cameras since the early 1970's, when the OM-1 was introduced. This was the beginning of a professional grade camera system that lasted until very recently. The hallmarks of the Olympus line were high-build quality, small size and light weight, and exceptional lens quality.

| The Olympus E-1 is the first removable lens digital SLR with a lens mount and imaging system specifically designed for digital. | The Olympus E-1 has been out since 2003 and many in-depth reviews have been written that examine both its features and file quality. Those aspects being well known, then, my focus for this second opinion review is primarily on answering two questions: 1. How well has the E-1 performed as a professional tool? 2. Considering that there are so many good DSLRs available right now, most with more than 5 MP resolution, why would one choose the E-1 over the other options? |
