Olympus C-7000 Zoom Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.50 (out of 10)
The Olympus Camedia C-7000 Zoom is a full-featured digital camera with very good image quality, very low noise and f-a-s-t operation with no practical shutter lag -- all in a compact and very light body. The Olympus C-7000 has a large and high resolution 2 in. LCD monitor with a fast refresh rate giving a clear and smooth display. Other professional features are a live histogram (with a unique "direct" feature), AF Area selection anywhere on the screen, and the possibility to record in RAW file format.

| I very much enjoyed using the Olympus C-7000 Zoom, and it gets my recommendation. Photo quality was very good, though I'd definitely crank the sharpness and especially the saturation up a notch or two. The C-7000Z has a 5X zoom lens packed into a midsized body, though the lens starts at 38 mm, making it a bad choice for wide-angle lovers. Camera performance is excellent, with the exception of saving or viewing RAW and TIFF files. |

| The C-7000 Zoom (known as the C-70 Zoom in Europe / SE Asia) is a new design direction for Olympus, looking back through their previous range the only similar camera could perhaps be the C-60 Zoom, although that only had a 3x optical zoom lens and had a sliding lens cover / power switch. It's certainly a departure (as was the C-8080) from cameras like the C-5060 / C-5000 |

| The 7.1-megapixel, 5x zoom Olympus C-7000 Zoom combines the flexibility of near-professional level exposure control to a compact, point-and-shoot body style.
The Olympus C-7000 Zoom offers just about every "enthusiast" feature you could ask for, excellent image quality, and a small body size that's perfect for travel.
At the same time though, its full-auto and scene modes make it easy for a novice to use. Camera body fit and finish is superb, possibly due to Olympus' bringing the
lion's share of manufacturing for their high-end digicams back in-house.

| Packed with more than three-quarters of a million pixels per ounce, this Olympus C-7000Z is typical of the breed of compact alternatives to a digital SLR or an EVF-equipped camera. Full manual controls; your choice of JPEG, TIFF, or raw file formats; versatile movie features; and a 5X zoom lens that takes you out to 190mm (35mm equivalent) as well as focuses to less than one inch in macro mode are among this camera's more interesting assets. The only extras a serious photographer could wish for would be support for add-on lenses and an external flash connection; this camera is otherwise ready for just about anything you can throw at it. |

| This new Olympus camera, the Camedia C-7000 (called C-70 in Europe), offers a 7.1 megapixel resolution and a 5X optical zoom. The body of the C-7000 is a totally new design. Though, to anyone familiar with Olympus cameras, the C-7000 contains a number of design cues that are recognizable as originating from previous Olympus models. |
