Casio Exilim EX-Z55 Review
|
Review Summary
At some point, you have to figure that the dominant digital photography trends of smaller cameras, bigger LCD screens, and more megapixels will reach a critical point, and we'll be left with some sort of tiny 12-megapixel monocle. Until that day arrives, we'll have to settle for models such as Casio's 5-megapixel Exilim EX-Z55 digital camera, a highly portable snapshot camera with a 2.5-inch LCD that's as bright as it is large. Though the Z55's lack of manual features and poor outdoor imaging can be frustrating at times, the camera delivers pleasing indoor results and acceptable shot-to-shot performance.

| The Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z55 fits into the ultra-compact family of digital cameras, being about the same size as a credit card at just 8cms by 6cms and weighing a mere 130g. Despite its diminutive dimensions, Casio have still managed to include both a 5 megapixel CCD sensor and a massive 2.5-inch LCD screen which dominates the rear of the camera. In addition, the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z55 has a 3x optical zoom, a battery life of around 400 shots and no less than 23 different Scene modes to help you achieve the correct exposure. So is the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z55 the ultimate, carry-with-you-everywhere digital camera? Read my extensive review to find out. |

| The Casio Exilim EX-Z55 ($449) is an ultra-compact 5 Megapixel camera with a large 2.5" LCD display and class-leading battery life. A slightly cheaper model, the EX-Z50 ($399), has a 2-inch screen and slightly lower battery life. Both cameras make up Casio's entry into the crowded ultra-compact field. I'll be looking at the Z55 here -- read on to find out how it stacks up against the competition. |

| The 5 MP Casio Exilim Zoom Ex-Z55 combines the best features of the 3-star Z40 with a dramatic upgrade in image quality, making this one of our favorite ultracompacts. The Canon Powershot SD300 edges it out of the Editors' Choice spot, but just by a hair. |
