Sony Alpha DSLR-A380 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.50 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "he Sony A380 is a new 14 megapixel DSLR camera featuring a restyled design and user interface to make it easier to use. Replacing the A350 model, the A380 retains all of its predecessor’s key features, with a 2.7 inch tilting LCD screen, Live View, anti-dust system, ISO range of 100-3200, anti-shake system that’s built into the body, eye-start auto-focus system and Dynamic Range Optimizer. ...

... Perhaps Sony hasn't brought a great deal that's new to the party between the A350 and A380, but at the very least here is a DSLR that you'll be quite happy to take out with you for a day's sightseeing when you might have otherwise plumped for a less satisfactory compact for the sake of its perceived lightness and convenience. ...'

The Sony DSLR-A380 is clearly targeted at beginners and users who want to move up from a compact camera without having to learn all the quirks of a digital SLR. ..."

Review (Summary): "The major changes to the A380 [compared with the A350] involve a new body shape that’s smaller and lighter than its predecessor and an easier control system designed for DSLR beginners upgrading from a point-and-shoot camera. With the new body, Sony’s also taken the opportunity to relocate the memory card door to the left side of the camera, and switch from Compact Flash to SD media, alongside and additional slot for Memory Stick Pro Duo. ...

The target audience are also unlikely to be overly concerned by the below average performance at high ISOs, relatively slow continuous shooting and technical limitations of the Live View system; indeed they’re much more likely to be bothered by the lack of video recording. ..."
