Casio Exilim EX-Z50 Review

Earlier this year Casio introduced the 4-megapixel Exilim Zoom EX-Z40, a thin-bodied digital camera with a large 2-inch TFT LCD screen. This successful model has now been followed up by the 5-megapixel Casio Z50 and Z55 models. Both these cameras represent all the good qualities from the previous model, such as improved battery life and high response time, together with a few other nice improvements that we will discuss later.

| The Casio Exilim EX-Z50 is one of the latest offerings from a company with a long history of innovation in the digital camera field. They promise the "Unexpected Extra" in their products, and the Casio EX-Z50 lives up to that billing, with no fewer than 23 special shooting modes, including ones for capturing and straightening images of white boards and business cards or other documents: Perfect for business or school note-taking. Compact, well-constructed, and stylish, the Casio Exilim EX-Z50 is a great "bring along" camera for casual outings, business, or vacation trips. | With Casio's long pedigree, it's no surprise that the EX-Z50 is a well-designed, well-made and well-specified camera. It has an all-metal body, an ultra-compact Pentax Sliding Lens System 3x optical zoom, and a high definition 2.0in TFT LCD monitor with 84,960 pixels. The overall style is generally similar to some of the cameras in Pentax's Optio range, as is the range of features on offer. However, the similarities are only skin deep. |

| Casio Z-series cameras stand out more for their careful balance of useful, friendly features than for their raw specsmanship. This is what makes them so satisfying to use and easy for me to recommend. Other thin-zooms may create infinitesimally better images (Canon S-300), have sharper displays (Sony T1), offer gee-whiz features (Panasonic), or have slimmer bodies (Minolta), but none offer such a likable balance for the money and none offer such incredible battery life. Think about what matters most to you, then buy. |
