Canon Powershot A590 IS Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.41 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The Canon PowerShot A590 IS is a entry-level camera that doesn't skimp on features. It offers a 4X optical zoom, image stabilization, a 2.5" LCD display, full manual controls, and a VGA movie mode. Not a bad deal for a camera selling for around $160! ...
... If you're looking for a budget camera that takes great pictures, and has all the features you could possibly desire (without too many gimmicks), then the Canon PowerShot A590 IS is absolutely worth a look. The only people that I'd caution are those who take a lot of movies or long exposures - you might want to find a camera with a 30 fps frame rate and better low light noise performance (respectively) instead. ..."

| Review (Summary): "Like the other cameras in the range it offers a range of features designed to meet the needs of the more creative photographer. It has an 8.0-megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD backed by the DIGIC III image processor, a relatively fast f/2.6-5.5, 4x zoom lens with a focal length range equivalent to 35-140mm and equipped with Canon's optical image stabilization technology, a 2.5-inch 115k monitor and an optical viewfinder. ...
... The overall level of detail is about average for an 8-megapixel sensor, and dynamic range is also pretty good. However it does have a tendency to burn out highlights, and very bright colours also present a problem, with yellow and red flowers appearing as featureless blobs of colour with little visible detail. Image noise was also an unexpected problem, with noise plainly visible as low as 200 ISO and becoming a major problem at 800 ISO. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "The Canon Powershot A590 IS is the big brother of the A580 model that we recently reviewed. The A590IS additionally offers an Optical Image Stabilizer for blur-free photos, full manual control over exposure with aperture-priority, shutter-priority and manual modes, plus an extensive range of optional lens accessories. ...
... for a model aimed at beginners, features are surprisingly comprehensive, its response times – save for that rather sluggish zoom – pretty good, and it's nice to see true optical image stabilization included as standard on a camera that costs what it does. ..." |

... The Canon PowerShot A590 IS is a good all-around digital camera, capable enough to perform well under most shooting conditions. Its range of manual and automatic exposure modes will set any user level at ease, and its healthy selection of shooting tools and image adjustments will keep experienced users from getting bored. ..." |
