Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Printer Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.00 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The new Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is a A3+ six-color photo printer that replaces the very popular Epson 1280/1290 model, which is a very old printer by today's standards. Although it does a great job with color prints, the 1280/1290 has been due for an update for some time now. With an outward appearance similar to the current R1800 and R2400 desktop printers, the Epson Stylus 1400 is a very nice update to the older models. ...
... Print quality is very good for color images. I was less happy with black and white prints though as all prints showed a color cast that I was unable to remove through adjustments in the print driver or with custom profiles I made. The custom profiles improved output, but I was still unable to produce a truly neutral toned black and white print. ..."

Review: "It's been a while since I last reviewed an Epson dye ink printer. In this interactive review I will be taking an in-depth look at the Epson Stylus Photo 1400, a direct replacement to the popular 1290 A3 printer.
The 1400 uses Epson's Claria ink set, these inks are formulated for premium grade photo quality printing. The ink coloring agents have a stronger and more stable structure, this makes the ink more resistant to atmospheric pollutants and light fade. In short, prints produced with Claria inks should last longer than previous generation dye ink prints.
The one thing that strikes me with the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is the build quality, it is first class. There is a lot of attention to small detail and the quality of components seems to be of a high standard. Many of the printers I have tested recently have kept the costs down by compromising on essential parts, and as a result I have seem floppy output trays and flimsy rear paper guide etc..." |

| Review: "The 1400 is aimed at serious amateur photographers. It can print spectacular photos at sizes ranging from 4-by-6 snapshots to 13-by-44 panoramas. If you want to print at smaller sizes, you can do that too, but 4 by 6 inches is the smallest paper it can handle, so you would need to cut it down to size after you print.
In the end, if you want high-quality photos at larger than letter or legal size, the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 costs less than the competition and prints gorgeous photos (as long as you're willing to wait a little). That more than enough reason to put it on your short list." |

| Review (Summary): "... Epson's Stylus Photo 1400 is a replacement for the Stylus Photo 1290 and has a number of improvements over its predecessor. ... Styled in black and silver, this is a large machine, but Epson has done what it can to reduce the size when it's not in use. The large telescopic paper-out tray folds right back into the front of the machine and a similar telescopic feed tray folds down and completes the clean lines of its top surface. The front cover folds down to reveal access for printing CDs. ...
If you're buying primarily to print photographs larger than A4, the Stylus Photo 1400 is an excellent choice. It produces very high-quality photographic output and although it's not particularly fast or cheap to run, it sits in the middle of the market. Plain paper print isn't so good, but if that's your chief need, there are four-colour office printers that will suit you better." |

| Review (Summary): "This six-color printer ($366, street) is loaded with Epson Claria Hi-Definition dye inks and can make borderless cut-sheet prints up to 13x19 inches, with drop sizes as small as 1.5 picoliters. While the cartridges hold more ink than earlier Epson models, they're expensive ($20 per color, street). ...
Want a 13x19-inch printer that's fast, produces wide-color-gamut prints that should last more than a lifetime (up to 98 years on display, based on Wilhelm Imaging Research tests)? Like to decorate your music and photo CDs and DVDs? Then this one's a deal." |
