Kodak EasyShare C743 Review

Review Summary
Review (Summary): "Its specification is fairly unremarkable; it has a 7.1 megapixel CCD, a 3x zoom (37-111mm equiv.) f/2.7–4.8 lens, a 2.4-in LCD monitor and auto-only operation. It runs on two AA batteries, and has a silver-colored plastic body. About the only sensible comparison would be with another Kodak C-series camera, or possibly something from Fujifilm's A-series, such as the unspectacular A700, or the rather better Nikon L10. ...

The Kodak EasyShare C743's low price may be a temptation, but don't be fooled; it actually represents extremely poor value for money. The meagre list of features, horrible zoom control, slow performance, appalling low-light ability, limited battery life and very poor image quality will prove to be a major disappointment for anyone unlucky enough to find themselves in possession of this camera. ..."

Review: "The Kodak EasyShare C743 is Kodak's bargain basement digital camera, and if this is what the bargain basement is offering these days, take me to the bottom floor immediately! Selling for just under $160 - though we've seen it for as low as $135 online - the Kodak C743 has a 7.1 megapixel CCD imager, a Kodak-branded 3x optical zoom lens with a 37-111mm equivalent focal range, and a 2.4-inch LCD along with a real-image optical viewfinder - an increasingly rare option these days and one that adds a good degree of versatility to this model.

...I found the Kodak C743's imaging quality mediocre at best, especially in anything but good outdoor sunlit conditions. Though noise levels were better than I expected, many shots I took in low light were blurry. The camera's underpowered flash was not a lot of help either, often failing to illuminate a scene even in a slightly overcast setting...."

Review: "Budget cameras are a dime a dozen these days, and without high-quality photos or unique capabilities, it's easy for these sub-$200 shooters to fall between the cracks. Of course, without a major flaw it's hard for a sub-$200 camera to really screw up, either. The Kodak EasyShare C743 is one such mediocre camera. It doesn't offer any notable benefits, but its flaws, while irritating, aren't enough to render it completely useless.

Noise is the C743's greatest problem. While the camera can only reach ISO 400, the shots look as if the camera were set at ISO 1600. At the highest sensitivity setting, our images looked incredibly fuzzy, and fine details appeared smudged and blurry..."
