Nikon Coolpix S200 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.00 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "For point-and-shoot cameras, size can mean almost everything. If a camera is just half an ounce too heavy or half an inch too thick, it'll be too uncomfortable to carry around. Smaller doesn't automatically mean better, however. The 7-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S200 is one of the smallest cameras we've seen in a long time, though it isn't necessarily better than the competition. ...
Images from the S200 aren't as sharp as we'd expect from a 7-megapixel camera. Finer details, such as smaller text or the texture of fabrics, just aren't as crisp as they could be. We saw some ISO-related noise, even at the camera's lowest ISO setting of ISO 50, though it was minor and visible only on monitors and not in prints. ..."

| Review (Summary): "Nikon's new Coolpix S200 is a stylish, ultra-compact and eminently pocketable 7 megapixel digital camera. The S200 is currently the smallest (3.6in/91.5 mm x 2.2in/56.5 mm), lightest (4.4 oz/125 g), and thinnest (0.76 inches/19mm) digital camera in Nikon's product catalog. The S200 is tough enough to go just about anywhere and simple enough to be used successfully by just about anyone. ...
... The S200 is a very quick digital camera, noticeably faster than average. The boot-up cycle is 0.8 seconds. Shutter lag (about 1/10th of a second) shouldn't be a problem since shutter fire is essentially real time with pre-focus. AF is consistently very fast (about half a second) from scratch and shot-to-shot/write-to-card times are faster than average (for ultra-compact digicams). ..." |

| Review (Summary): "One of the tiniest Nikon Coolpix cameras to date, the 7.1 megapixel Nikon Coolpix S200 is a small but stylish point-and-shoot camera. Equipped with a telescoping 3x optical zoom lens, the Nikon S200 offers a moderate 35mm-equivalent focal range of 38-114mm that is extendable by a 4x digital zoom. A 2.5-inch LCD with 153,000 pixel resolution is the only means of composing since, like most sub-compact digital cameras, the Nikon S200 does not have an optical viewfinder.
The Nikon Coolpix S200 is small, slim, and stylish, but its images are a little disappointing when compared to other cameras on the market. On the plus side, the camera looks good and is easy to use-two attributes that snapshooters value. A minimal feature set contributes to that ease of use as does the built-in Help system that explains the purpose of the camera's features with just the touch of the Zoom lever. ..." |

Review (Summary): "The Coolpix S200 is the most compact camera currently in Nikon's line-up. When it is off and the lens is retracted, the camera is only 19 mm (0.76 inch) thick. This very compact size still allows for a conventional 3X optical zoom - unlike the periscope-like zooms of earlier Coolpix S series cameras - and a 7.1 megapixel resolution along with a 2.5-inch LCD display.
The Coolpix S200 is a high quality entry-level camera. It offers a metallic body and excellent finishing, a good monitor and produces good quality images with reasonably bright lighting conditions. Moreover, the e-VR is an added bonus, even it isn't quite as effective as an optical image stabilization system."
