Canon Powershot A460 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 4.00 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The 5-megapixel Canon PowerShot A460 succeeds the A430 with a marginally larger LCD screen and CCD size. Its 2.0-inch LCD screen has a paltry 86,000 pixels, an in-camera flash, and a 4x optical zoom lens. It comes equipped with a full auto mode, a manual mode, eight preset scene modes and a movie mode with audio capture. ...

... The A460 only extends its ISO up to 400, limiting its use indoors and in low light conditions; however, its image quality and performance characteristics in bright conditions are decent. The A460 won't be in the running for DCI Camera-of-the-Year, but it is a solid performer among near $100 models. ..."

Review: "The chunky, brick-shaped A460 weighs 7.4 ounces with batteries and memory card, and at 1.6 inches thick, it's a bit too fat to fit in your jeans. The minimalist control layout consists of four buttons and a zoom rocker integrated into a menu-navigating joy pad. This is an irritating design, and large thumbs will be prone to accidentally bumping the zoom in or out, or changing settings such as flash when using the zoom.

The Canon PowerShot A460 would have been a good camera a few years ago, but these days it just doesn't cut it. With only 5-megapixel resolution and horrible image noise, we can't easily recommend this camera. Even among sub-$150 cameras, there are better choices out there."

Review (Summary): "This simplified 5-megapixel digicam has really only one extra feature compared to other low price cameras, which is a 4x zoom, just a little more than the average 3x digicam. Equivalent to a 38 to 152mm zoom, it comes in handy when you want to get just a little closer. Other than that, the camera represents what was hot about two or three years ago, with a simple range of ISO setting from 80 to 400. Want to know a secret? Cameras were pretty good two or three years ago, and so is the A460 today. ...

The digital camera market is jam packed with dirt-cheap digicams, but there are only a few in this under-$150 range that I would recommend to just about anyone. The Canon PowerShot A460 is just such a camera. Its 5-megapixel sensor is more than enough for the average snapshooter wanting to create 4x6 and 5x7 prints. The Canon A460's shape and size are easy to bring along, and its use of two AA batteries makes it an easy choice, since compatible power is available anywhere. ..."

Review (Summary): "The PowerShot A460 updates its predecessor, the A430 with a slightly larger 2-inch color screen and an extra million pixels, bringing the total effective resolution of the new model to 5 million pixels.

...It may not be the prettiest camera out there and it may not be the fastest, but it takes nice pictures, is easy to use, and is worth every penny at that price."
