Samsung NV7 OPS Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 4.50 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): " ... As well as its 7.2-megapixel sensor and 7x zoom lens it also features an all-metal body, a full range of manual exposure options, CCD-shift image stabilization, a pop-up flash and a big 2.5-in 230k LCD monitor screen. It’s an impressive camera from any point of view, but it doesn’t come cheap. ...

... The Samsung NV7 OPS had the potential to be an outstanding camera, with a superb lens, great styling, adequate performance and a useful range of features including image stabilization. However the sub-standard image processing system and resulting image noise problems really let it down."

Review (Summary): "Samsung's NV7 OPS simply confounds me: for a company to clearly have spent a lot of time working on a novel but quite usable new interface, but implement it in a sluggish camera that produces noisy, over processed photos just seems, well, wrong. Granted, it's rather inexpensive given its specs, which include a 7-megapixel CCD with sensor-shift mechanical image stabilization, a broad set of semi-manual controls, and an f/2.8-4.0 38mm-270mm 7X zoom lens."

Review (Summary): "Announced on the 4th of July 2006, the Samsung NV7 OPS is part of Samsung's new "NV" range of digital cameras and is a new 7 megapixel digital camera with a large 7x optical zoom lens. The NV7 is features anti-shake / CCD-shift image stabilization and a new "Smart Touch" interface. The NV7 is a 7.2 megapixel digital camera with a high resolution 2.5" screen, and a 7x optical zoom lens. The 7x optical zoom lens is equivalent to 38 - 270mm on a 35mm camera...

Sometimes a little bit of noise is acceptable, especially if you can use the lowest ISO setting for noise free photos, but the NV7 features noise even when using ISO100. The "Smart Touch" interface is an interesting idea, but whilst it was designed to make using the camera easier, none of the buttons are labeled, and I found the controls fiddly and difficult to use, meaning even the simplest of changes were time consuming...."

Review: "Offering 7.2 megapixels, a 7x zoom lens equivalent to 38-270mm, optical image stabilization, ISO 100-1000 and and a 2.5 inch LCD screen, the Samsung NV7 certainly looks very appealing on paper. The NV7 also has a very different user interface to most digicams, which utilizes a touch-sensitive smart button system to make its menu system more accessible.

The Samsung NV7 is a premium-level product that is both well made and well thought out, with a unique menu interface that makes the camera easier to understand and navigate than a conventional system. The Samsung NV7 really does look and feel different to most other cameras out there and is superbly designed and built..."

Review: "The NV7 OPS is - on paper at least - an exciting product from the increasingly innovative Korean manufacturer, offering 7MP, 7x zoom, image stabilization and a feature list as long as your arm in a surprisingly compact body. And it's very aggressively priced to boot.

The NV7 OPS is an otherwise fantastic camera that produces mediocre - and on occasion downright poor - images, certainly when compared to the best alternatives on the market. Which is a bit like saying 'it takes 20 minutes to hit 60mph, at which point it rattles enough to loosen your teeth, but otherwise it's a fantastic sports car. To us, at least, the end result is the defining quality of a camera, and the NV7 OPS simply doesn't deliver the goods."

Review: "The Samsung NV7 OPS ($349) is the top-of-the-line model in the Korean manufacturer's line of premium digital cameras. It packs a 7 Megapixel CCD, 7X optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization, full manual controls, and a very unique user interface.

That unique interface is called Smart Touch, which I first saw on the NV10 that I reviewed last year. Instead of having buttons for specific purposes all over the camera, the NV7 has 13 "Smart Buttons" around the LCD....

The Samsung NV7 OPS is a camera that offers a lot of bang for the buck, but is ultimately a let down due to its below average image quality, poor battery life, and frustrating user interface. While I like its design and feature set quite a bit, the bottom line is that there are better cameras out there for the money."
