Samsung L700 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.33 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "... The L700 offers a 7.2 megapixel resolution, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, and a 3X optical zoom, all of it packaged in a well-crafted body. The front and back of this version are clad in a black-finish metal allowing a silver colored plastic center section. The L700 is also available finished entirely in silver.

... Overall, the Samsung L700 yields very good images, particularly if these are destined to be printed. The L700 reacts quickly to its controls, including its shutter release, and its photos can be printed out to 10.2 x 7.6 inches (26 x 19.5 cm) at 300 dpi easily and with excellent results, placing it on the same footing as most expensive cameras. In fact, the L700 probably has one of the best cost-to-value ratios for cameras currently on the market. ..."

Review (Summary): "The Samsung L700 couples a 7.2-megapixel CCD image sensor to a Samsung NV-branded 3x optical zoom lens that offers a fairly standard 35 to 105mm equivalent focal range. The Samsung L700 forgoes any form of optical viewfinder, with shots instead framed on a large 2.5 inch LCD display that occupies almost three quarters of the camera's rear panel. Images are stored on Secure Digital or MultiMediaCards - including the newer SDHC or "Secure Digital High Capacity" types - or in 20MB of internal memory. ...

... Almost as troublesome was that the Samsung L700's LCD display - while bright and clear in most conditions - washes out badly under direct sunlight. Given that there's no alternative method of framing images, this often lead me to shoot one-handed while cupping my other hand near the LCD to shade it from sunlight. ..."

Review (Summary): "The L700's specification is pretty basic. It has none of the bells and whistles found on many modern compacts, such as image stabilization or face detection. What it does have is ISO 1600 sensitivity, spot metering, adjustable color balance and sharpness, and 11 scene modes. It also has a reasonably sophisticated video mode, with MPEG4 file compression giving 44 minutes of recording on a 1GB card at VGA resolution and 30fps.

With the L700 Samsung has produced the very definition of an average 3x zoom digital compact camera. It has no real weak points apart from its poor low-light focusing and over-exposure in bright light, but little about it stands out either. It is well made, performs adequately, has all the features and options you really need and takes reasonably good pictures. ..."

Review (Summary): "Announced at CES earlier this year, the L700 is like most of the other cameras that Samsung launched at the same time, a 7-megapixel snapper with a 3x optical zoom.

The L700 offers a 2.5-inch display on the back, numerous picture modes, as well as the ability to record movies in MPEG4 at 30fps. ...

The L700 is one of those digital cameras, that isn't brilliant, nor is it shockingly bad, its just mediocre. ..."
