Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.46 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "... the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30 is one of the latest Panasonic digital cameras and features a 7.2 megapixel sensor, a 2.5" screen, and a wide angle Leica 3.6x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization. The wide angle 3.6x optical zoom lens is equivalent to 28 – 100 mm on a 35mm camera. ...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30 is an excellent ultra compact digital camera - image quality is very good with great color and detail although noise and lack of detail at the higher ISO settings causes some concern. The camera offers an excellent Leica wide-angle 3.6x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization, helping you get sharp, crisp, blur free images even in low light. ..."

Review (Summary): "... Equipped with a 7.2 megapixel CCD and a stabilized 3X zoom, the DMC-FX30 continues the look and design of the series. Most of the body is made of metal, with both front and back having a satin finish. The camera can be had in black, pink or white. ...

The Panasonic DMC-FX30 is a camera that produces mixed reactions. It allows capturing fleeting moments thanks to a fast auto focus and a negligible shutter delay. The images the camera yields have an excellent colour rendition, exposures turn out perfectly without any particular effort on the part of the photographer, and images print very well. At the same time, this is a camera that is clearly sensitive to noise, yielding its best results when given plenty of bright light and when the photographer tries to avoid framing shots that contain numerous shadow areas. ..."

Review (Summary): "The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30 is a slim 7.2 Megapixel compact digital camera with a 3.6 zoom sporting wide angle capabilities and optical stabilization. It's the successor to the FX07 and at the time of writing, the world’s slimmest compact with a 28mm (equivalent) wide angle lens. As such it’s the flagship model in Panasonic's general-purpose compact range.

... Ultimately if you can live with the noise and mostly automatic controls, then the FX30 is a lovely compact to use. It's slim and light while packing in a decent lens with genuine wide angle and optical stabilization. The sensor issues prevent us from awarding our highest recommendation, but since this is par for the course with today's compacts coupled with the overwhelmingly positive aspects of the FX30, means it's a model we can still comfortably Recommend."

Review (Summary): "The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30 is a beautiful and elegant ultra compact digital camera with some of the best features on a point-and-shoot digital camera. It is only 22mm (0.87 in.) thin ("world's slimmest digital camera with a 28mm wide-angle lens") and easily slips into a jeans pocket, shirt pocket or small fashion purse.

I have to keep reminding myself this is "just" a point-and-shoot digital camera. But it has manual WB for accurate color reproduction when it matters; it even gives you WB adjust if you really want the color to be exact! Live Histogram. Framing Guide and Live Histogram together. One of the best and logical menu structure I've used. Very clear and smooth LCD display. Plus, fast performance and no practical shutter lag - all in all, a delightful total user experience."

Review (Summary): "With a street price of around £234, the DMC-FX30 is at the lower end of the market, but it does have some notable features, headlining with a 28mm equivalent field of view lens. It's up against cameras like Samsung's L70 and Nikon's Coolpix S500.

The inclusion of anti-shake, optical technology is fairly radical at this price point, but in reality, it will make a difference on a fairly small bandwidth of shutter speeds. Of much more practical use is the 28mm lens, which makes it easier to compose wider landscape shots, and also to get people into group shots. Really, it's a must-have feature for compacts, and it's surprising that more cameras don't have it...
