Fuji Film FinePix E510 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.67 (out of 10)
The FinePix E510 ($349) is one of three cameras in Fuji's new E-series of digital cameras. Here's a quick look at the lineup and what differentiates one model from the next: (See Review). After spending some time with the E-series, I realized that this is Fuji's answer to Canon's tremendously popular PowerShot A-series, although the Finepix's have some tricks up their sleeves that make them stand out from things like the A85 and A95. Those tricks include a wider-angle lens and larger / higher quality LCD display.None of that matters if the camera is slow, poorly-designed, or if it takes bad pictures. How does the 5.2 Megapixel FinePix E510 perform? Find out in our review!

The Fujifilm FinePix E510 digital camera packs 5 megapixels and a handful of advanced features into a sturdy and efficiently designed silver body. With its many tweakable priority modes and a pop-up flash, the E510 aims for the snapshooter who wants a camera to grow with. However, below-par performance and several image quality flaws severely limit the E510's overall effectiveness.

The Fujifilm Finepix E510 is Fuji's 5 megapixel entry into the crowded entry-level digital camera market. The only difference between the Fujifilm Finepix E510 and its slightly cheaper brother, the E500, is the number of megapixels - 5 versus 4. The Finepix E510 has a 28-91mm zoom lens, which is a lot wider than most of its rivals. The E510 also offers full photographic control in the form of aperture-priority, shutter-priority and manual modes. The Fujifilm Finepix E510 is also larger than many digicams, which Fujifilm claims makes it more of a photographer’s camera. So does the Finepix E510 appeal to the photographer in me? Read my review to find out.

The Fujifilm FinePix E510, a 5.2 megapixel camera, is part of a new series of Fujifilm digital cameras that use a standard CCD as opposed to a SuperCCD. The E510 is one of two cameras that have identical bodies, the other being the E500, a 4.1 megapixel. Both cameras have a 3X optical zoom, and a wide angle equivalent to a 28mm. The body of the E510 is composed of a metallic front while the rest of the camera is made of matching silver gray plastic. A light gray plastic grip, with a chromed strip containing the self-timer lamp, is large enough to provide a comfortable and secure hold on the camera.
