Kodak EasyShare V1003 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.25 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "An attractive little camera, the EasyShare V1003 is crafted in eight unconventional colors with names like "Java Brown," "Golden Dream," and "Pink Bliss." The device is also sculpted with rounded edges, and has an iPod-like texture, making it pleasant to hold. But as an actual camera, the V1003 leaves much to be desired. ...

Resolution averaged 1,900 lines, which is quite good for a 10MP camera. Even so, the bootup time was 5.5 seconds, which is way too slow. And although the V1003's 2.6-second recycle time was decent, like I said before, I found very noticeable shutter lag. ..."

Review (Summary): "The 10-megapixel Kodak EasyShare V1003 features a Kodak Retinar-branded 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch 150,000 pixel LCD display, a high ISO mode that offers a maximum sensitivity of ISO 1,600 equivalent, and a whopping 22 Scene modes ...

Despite the attractiveness of the Kodak EasyShare V1003, I was disappointed in its performance. It was hard to read the LCD and "catch the moment" with this camera. Focus was very slow and shutter lag really got in the way. It got even worse when I added flash to the equation. When I looked over the images, they were far too saturated with too much contrast in sunlight. ..."

Review (Summary): "Kodak was once the biggest name in photos, pioneering mainstream color photography with Kodachrome. Now, at least with some models, the company focuses more on the colors and shapes of their cameras than the pictures they produce. This unfortunate reality rears its head with the EasyShare V1003, the 10-megapixel brother to the disappointing EasyShare V803.

...If you want good-looking, high-resolution images, then choose substance over style, spend a little more, and consider the less stylish but much more reliable Canon PowerShot A640 or SD1000 cameras. They're not as colorful as the V1003, and the SD1000 has 7.1 rather than 10 megapixels, but they're much better designed and offer better image quality."
