Kodak EasyShare V803 Review
|
Review Summary
Review (Summary): "The latest batch of Kodak cameras have managed to marry retro styling with very simple use and some cute features. The V803 eschews those features and instead goes for headline grabbing resolution at a bargain price.
The headline feature of the camera is a whopping 8Mp resolution in a compact body at a very affordable price. With such a low price other features have to be sacrificed, so it's just a paltry 3x optical zoom and this is pretty poor, lacking any kind of smoothness when zooming in. What's perhaps less palatable is that the zone metering system isn't very good, losing highlights on shots where it blatantly should pick up the bright areas right in the middle. ..."

| Review (Summary) "The EasyShare V803 ($199) is the latest model in Kodak's stylish V-series of digital cameras. Most of the features are pretty pedestrian: an 8 Megapixel CCD, 3X optical zoom, 2.5" LCD, tons of point-and-shoot features, and a VGA movie mode. What has garnered more attention (perhaps unfortunately) is the fact that the V803 comes in NINE different colors. If you've been wanting a purple camera... well, now's your chance.
Photo quality was a mixed bag. The EasyShare V803 produced photos with good exposures and plenty of saturation (too much in my opinion), pleasing sharpness, and minimal purple fringing. While there isn't much noise at lower ISO settings, there are some noise reduction artifacts to be found, most notably in the sky. At higher ISOs (400 and above) the image quality drops rapidly, with ISO 800 and 1600 worth avoiding. Redeye was also a problem, and the camera's dual redeye removal system didn't seem to help." |

| Review: "The Kodak Easyshare V803 is a stylish point and shoot digital camera with an 8 megapixel sensor, 2.5 inch LCD screen and 3x zoom lens (36-108mm), available in no less than 8 different colors. The ISO speed goes up to 1600 and there's a digital anti-blur mode to help prevent camera shake.
...Overall image quality is fine, although there is some blurring of image detail at ISO 200, and progressively more blurring and noise at higher ISO speeds. This means that the V803 is best suited to situations with adequate lighting, especially if you want to make larger prints. The new extended ISO range looks good on paper as a marketing bullet point, but not so great in reality - ISO 800 and 1600 are bordering on unusable..."

| Review: "Announced as recently as January this year, the EasyShare V803 occupies the second-from-top position in Kodak's popular V-series of pocket-sized compact digital cameras, just behind the 10-megapixel V1003. The V803 features an 8-megapixel CCD, a compact 3x optical zoom, a 2.5 in LCD monitor, and comes in a range of no less than eight different colors, including red, blue, yellow, purple, white, silver, pink and the sexy matt black version I'm testing today.
If you can forgive its sluggish start-up time and underpowered flash, the Kodak Easyshare V803 is a well made and stylish camera with a good range of user options, long battery life and easy handling, and which can provide excellent picture quality at a very reasonable price."

| Review (Summary): "The Kodak EasyShare V803 features a Kodak Retinar-branded 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5-inch 150,000 pixel LCD display (but no optical viewfinder), a high ISO mode that offers a maximum sensitivity of ISO 1,600 equivalent, and a whopping 23 scene modes. ...
As much as I liked the design and feel of the V803, I was disappointed in its real-world performance. Much of that can be explained away by the $200 price tag, but it was so hard to read the LCD and "catch the moment" with this camera that I quickly put it aside. Focus was very slow and shutter lag consequently horrible. And when I did look over the images, they were far too saturated with too much contrast in sunlight. ..." |

| Review: "We don't say this enough, but when it comes to gadgets, substance trumps style. Even if a gadget is pretty and stylish, it's worthless if it doesn't do what's intended. Sure, Kodak's EasyShare V803 might be pretty and stylish. Unfortunately it's also a very poor digital camera.
...Unfortunately, the same company that ushered in color photography with Kodachrome now seems more interested in the color of the cameras than the technology inside them and the usability of their design." |

| Review (Summary): "The Kodak EasyShare V803 fits into a growing market of gadgets that double as fashion accessories. The Kodak camera comes in eight colors and has standard point-and-shoot features including a 3x optical zoom lens and 2.5-inch LCD screen. Beyond the basic specs, the updated EasyShare camera has a sensitivity range up to 1600 ISO and a new Maintain Settings function that stores a user's frequently used camera settings. ...
... A budget camera isn’t going to give you superior image quality, but you hope it will at least take decent photos. Unfortunately, the V803 hardly achieves even that. While the resolution at the center of your pictures will look crisp, the edges will be blurry. ..." |
