Canon Powershot A570 IS Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.63 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The PowerShot A570 IS ($279) finds itself in the middle of Canon's entry-level A-series of digital cameras. It features a 4X optical zoom lens, 7.1 Megapixel CCD, full manual controls, a 2.5" LCD display, and a VGA movie mode. The A570 is also the cheapest Canon camera to offer optical image stabilization, which makes it a smart step up from the PowerShot A550 and A560 below it. ...
I've long been a fan of Canon's PowerShot series, and here's why. They offer features (like manual controls and conversion lens support) normally found on cameras costing hundreds more. They are also use AA batteries, are quick performers, and take high quality photos. The PowerShot A570 IS continues this tradition, and adds a very handy feature: optical image stabilization. With a street price hovering around $225, there's no arguing about the A570's value - you get a lot of bang for the buck. All these things make it an easy camera to recommend. ..."

| Review (Summary): "This new Canon traces its lineage back to the A540 and features a 7.1 megapixel sensor and 4x Canon optical zoom lens that provides a 35 to 140mm (35mm equivalent) focal length range in addition to the aforementioned IS. The camera also boasts a DIGIC III processor which Canon says provides better images, better battery performance and improved Face Detection and Red Eye Correction technologies. There's a 2.5 inch LCD monitor, a viewfinder, full manual controls, ISO to 1600, and just in case you opt not to dabble with those manual controls, 15 shooting and special scene modes that let the camera do the work.
Canon might be marketing this camera to "family photographers", but the A570 IS should appeal to a much wider range of shooters. With great image and color quality, image stabilization, excellent shutter lag and continuous shooting capability, manual controls and versatile "auto" performance, this camera can ably serve a novice who never leaves the "auto" setting or provide a learning tool for someone looking to get some manual experience before possibly jumping into the DSLR world. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "The entry-level Canon PowerShot A570 IS is the first in the company's "A" line to offer image stabilization. At $279 suggested, and about $210 retail, it packs a range of other formerly high-end features, including face detection, image stabilization and a maximum ISO of 1600. It's small, though, and sports only a 4x zoom. The A-series finish and styling have an economy-line feel, so the A570 doesn't look as impressive as Canon's G series, or others. ...
... for just over $200, the PowerShot A570IS is a bargain for casual users, who will benefit from its hefty feature set. The face detection and image stabilization combination will save, conservatively, gazillions of snapshots taken by the careless, clueless or chemically-compromised user. It's less likely that the A570IS's other advances - a 7.1-megapixel sensor and a high-end ISO of 1600 - will help users as much, though their inclusion, coupled with the camera's manual controls and exceptional color performance, make the A570IS an unusual bargain at its price." |

| Review (Summary): "The Canon PowerShot A570 IS digital camera has a resolution of 7.1 megapixels, and is coupled to a Canon-branded 4x optical zoom lens with image stabilization achieved by moving elements in the optical path. (True "optical image stabilization.") ...
The Canon A570 IS stands out for its usable ISO as high as 1600 (for small prints, at least) and excellent image stabilization so useful you'll always want it active. Considering you get that for just $50 over the price of the quite similar A560, it's a bargain, too. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "For just over a year now, any time anyone has asked me to recommend a good low-cost mid-range camera with manual controls, I have unhesitatingly pointed them at the Canon PowerShot A540, which I reviewed here in May of last year. However my recommendation will be changing from now on, because Canon has recently replaced the deservedly popular A540 with this, the PowerShot A570 IS. ...
... With the PowerShot A570 IS Canon continues what is arguably the best value series of mid-range enthusiast's cameras on the market. Performance, build quality and design are up to Canon's usual high standard, it has a wider range of features than anything else at its price point, and produces good results in a wide range of lighting conditions. It is an ideal camera for anyone keen to learn, and is capable of real creative photography." |

| Review (Summary): "The new Canon A570 IS camera is a compact camera from the PowerShot A-5xx series. It is actually a luxurious version of the PowerShot A560 camera. An important addition is the integration of the optical image stabilizer, a feature that distinguishes the Canon PowerShot A570 IS from its competitors in its class. ...
The image quality of the Canon PowerShot A570 IS camera is great. The colors are saturated and appear natural. The saturation is a bit strong for my taste, but that is a personal preference. The Canon PowerShot A570 IS may not perform perfectly in extreme artificial lighting, but a simple white balance correction will resolve this problem immediately. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "... A series PowerShots have improved with each generation and - thanks to the inclusion of comprehensive manual controls and technologies such as the new DIGIC III imaging processor and image stabilization - have become a viable weapon of choice not only for beginners but also the more advanced photographer with limited resources.
...
... this is a perfect camera for anyone wanting real photographic control without paying through the nose. Its well balanced combination of image quality, functionality and handling (and not to forget value for money) means the A570 IS just about deserves our highest award." |
