Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.28 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The Sony T100 spices up the ultra-slim digital camera market. It comes with 8.1 megapixels, a 5x optically stabilized zoom lens, face detection, and even high-definition output. The trendy and glittery T100 has an enormous 3-inch LCD screen and automatic exposure modes with a smattering of manual controls that makes it appealing to point-and-shooters. It costs $399 and stands at the top of the Cyber-shot T-series lineup. ...

At 8.1 megapixels, it has plenty of resolution. A 5x optical zoom lens that is fully functional while shooting still images and video is also a big plus. It has a Super SteadyShot system that keeps pictures blur-free and video shake-free. There is a 3-inch LCD screen that has great resolution and can be viewed indoors, outdoors, upside down, and sideways. Playback is a good experience whether on the camera, computer, or television. Add the minimal shutter lag and realistic colors and the T100 is already a far better performer than many of its ultra-slim competitors. ..."

Review (Summary): "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 - a replacement for the DSC-T50 - features an eight megapixel sensor which is coupled to a Zeiss-branded 5x optical zoom and a large 3.0-inch LCD display. The DSC-T100's 35 to 175mm equivalent lens incorporates Sony's Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization to minimize blur caused by camera shake at slow shutter speeds.

If the attractive compact design doesn't win you over at once, the large, gorgeous LCD will. And you won't regret it because the T100 is a very capable camera, making great shots easy, without too much contrast or saturation. Thanks to the Alpha's Bionz image processor and Super SteadyShot, there isn't much this slim digicam with its 5x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens can't do."

Review (Summary): "... The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 is camera that takes some large steps forward - and backward - when compared to its predecessor, the T50. It's a good point-and-shoot camera, though not without a number of annoyances. Many of these negatives are subjective, so they may bother you less than they bother me (so try before you buy). While it's not a camera I would own myself, I would certainly recommend it to those who don't take a lot of photos in unusual or low lighting. ...

... While not my favorite ultra-compact camera, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 does offer a lot for the point-and-shoot crowd. That includes a 5X optical zoom lens, optical image stabilization, huge LCD display, snappy performance, and a stylish design. It has its flaws though, and is definitely not for those who may require some manual controls, but for a go-anywhere camera it's definitely worth considering."

Review (Summary): "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 is the latest addition to Sony's ever-growing range of fashion conscious compact cameras. Aimed firmly at the fashionista crowd, this 8 megapixel model offers a combination of 5x inset zoom lens equivalent to 35-175mm and a massive 3 inch LCD screen, currently the most powerful zoom and largest LCD in Sony's T-series. ...

... red eye was a real problem when using the flash unfortunately, and the camera failed to detect its existence when trying the in-camera re-touching facilities. The white balance does some strange things too - occasionally lending a distinctly blue cast to daylight images when left on auto - especially when there's an expanse of blue sky in the frame - and when left on the default of normal color mode. ..."

Review (Summary): "...the T100 is a very nice looking camera. The front features a large sliding cover over the lens, flash and AF assist lamp, leaving it a plain sheet of shiny brushed aluminum (although it's also available in black). Turning to the back we find a very large 3-inch 230k LCD monitor and a minimal selection of nicely styled controls. There are a couple more buttons on the top plate, but the overall impression is of elegant simplicity. ...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 is an expensive camera for a relatively simple pocket compact, but it justifies its price with excellent build quality, elegant design, above average performance and superb image quality. It is an outstanding all-round snapshot camera, and if you can afford it you won't be disappointed."

Review (Summary): "... Predictably, ISO80 gives good results with no noise and good detail to the petals as does ISO100. ISO200 shows a minor amount of noise and the color of the petals is starting to saturate with ISO400 having distinct noise and the petals a brighter orange than the lower ratings. ISO800 shows more color, but still displays detail in the petal and I would expect to see more noise than this in the image. ...

... The camera is aimed at users who know their way around a camera, but don't want a big bulky one. The camera is very capable, has a good lens and the zoom is good for the size with the resolution and processor helping, some good photographs can be taken with it."

Review (Summary): "Sony's various point-and-shoot cameras generally have three things in common: They have exquisite product design, take pictures of excellent quality, and are overpriced. The 8.1-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 is no exception. That it possesses the first two qualities I mentioned nearly made it an Editors' Choice winner, but the steep price ($399.99 direct) knocks it out of contention. ...

... Perhaps taking a cue from Panasonic, which includes its version of mechanical image stabilization in all its point-and-shoot digital cameras, Sony integrates IS into this point-and-shoot. I'm happy to say that Sony's Super SteadyShot IS worked reasonably well in both low light and bright light. ..."
