Kodak EasyShare V705 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.00 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The Kodak EasyShare V705 has scaled the Megapixel ladder and with 7.0 effective Megapixels it is about average. The design has stayed exactly the same and the Kodak V705 is also compact and streamlined. It was designed for a beginner or someone who wants an extra camera that is purely for convenience. ...
...I can only say that I had mixed feelings about the Kodak EasyShare V750. I enjoyed using it. The operation is fine and straightforward and the compact format will entice you into carrying the camera around with you. The 23 mm wide-angle lens is also extremely tempting for anyone who is into landscape or architectural photography. I couldn't get rid of the feeling that this camera wasn't quite up to scratch. ..."

| Review: "The Kodak EasyShare V705 Dual Lens is a beautiful compact digital camera with a unique ultra-wide angle lens. Billed as the world's smallest ultra-wide-angle digital camera, it in fact has two quality SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH C-VARIOGON lenses: a regular 39-117mm 3x optical zoom lens, plus an ultra-wide angle 23mm lens perfect for group shots of friends and family members, landscape and real-estate photography.
The Kodak EasyShare V705 Dual Lens is a one-of-a-kind digital camera that gives well exposed, good to very good quality images straight out of the camera. Its ultra-wide angle lens should be a major selling point for many who desire or require that wide coverage. It is very easy to use and, paired with the optional Printer Dock Plus Series 3 printer, you have One-Touch facility in transferring images to your PC and printing 4x6 in. prints in the convenience of your home." |

| Review: "...The EasyShare V705 has one zoom lens that covers the usual 39-117mm territory occupied by most 3x zoom digital compacts, and another fixed lens that is equivalent to 23mm, by far the widest angle lens on any compact digital camera, and more than enough for even the most extended family get-together.
Picture quality is perhaps not a primary concern with a camera like this, but it's actually not at all bad. The image files are very compressed at around 1.5MB each, but at least that means you can get well over 500 pictures on a 1GB card. Unfortunately it also means there are visible compression artefacts on many images.
Image noise handling is not as good as some cameras that I've seen recently, and at the 1000 ISO maximum they are really very noisy..." |

| Review: "When Kodak introduced the V570 at CES last January, some editors, including myself, were confused by Kodak's decision to include a fixed-focal-length 23mm lens, along with a 3X optical 39mm-to-117mm zoom lens, in the company's first dual-lens camera. Then, when Kodak announced the V610, with its 10X optical zoom (combined) dual-lens design, the V570 seemed like the proof-of-concept for the dual-lens genre. Kodak's newest design in this space, the V705, goes back to the V570's lens combo, upping the sensor to a 7.1-megapixel CCD, adding a few features, and offering three colors: Silver Essence, Midnight Black, and Absolute Pink.
The Kodak EasyShare V705 is, without a doubt, a snapshooter's camera. With its fast performance and decent feature set, lots of casual shooters will probably like it. The one problem is that the dual-lens/dual-sensor design comes with a price tag that makes this camera compete with cameras such as Sony's Cyber Shot DSC-T9, which has one fewer megapixel but offers slightly less noise at comparable ISOs...."

| Review: "Introduced in August 2006 as the world’s smallest ultra-wide angle digital camera, the Kodak EasyShare V705 moves to the market with plenty of features in a tiny shell. To fit a 5x optical zoom range in a 0.8-inch thick body, Kodak created its Retina technology that pairs two lenses on the front. This certainly looks different than a traditional camera body, but the EasyShare V-series isn’t too concerned about tradition. The 7.1-megapixel V705 follows the V570 and V610 and retails for $349.
"...The Kodak EasyShare V705 would be a good camera for someone who only shoots outdoors in sunny conditions; the limited aperture range requires lots of light and its auto focus struggles in darker conditions. For anything else, though, the Kodak V705 will be a disappointment..." |

| Review: "The Kodak Easyshare V705 is a modest upgrade of the innovative Kodak V570, which was the first camera to feature not one but two lenses when it was released last year. The official name is Kodak Retina Dual Lens Technology, and it allows Kodak to offer both an ultra wide-angle lens of 23mm and a more standard zoom lens of 39mm-117mm in the same camera.
There's obvious distortion at the 23mm end of the zoom range and the step-up from 23 to 39mm takes a little getting used to, but that's a small price to pay for the flexibility that's on offer. Using such a small camera with such a wide zoom range opens up lots of photographic opportunities that you just won't get with some similar sized models. The Kodak Easyshare V705 isn't the fastest camera available, with the zooming mechanism and continuous shooting being particularly slow, although focusing in both good and low light situations is fast and accurate...." |
