Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2 Review

Review (Summary)y: "The Sony DSC-N2 is the follow-up camera to the DSC-N1, reviewed in megapixel at the same time last year. The exterior design of the DSC-N2 is unchanged from the N1, and indeed, the only changes are the use of a champagne color for the solid metal body and, of course, an increase in resolution from 8.1 to 10.1 megapixel.
Photos are uniformly sharp, irrespective of the focal length used, and images captured at the wide angle end of the zoom are as sharp as those captured at the telephoto end. Similarly, there is no sign of any chromatic aberration - purple fringing - at either end of the zoom range."

| Review: "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2 is an upgrade of the existing DSC-N1 model. The Sony N2 derives its higher ten megapixel resolution from a 1/1.7" CCD imager, rather than the eight megapixel 1/1.8" imager used in the previous camera. This is coupled with the same popup Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar zoom lens, which offers a 3x optical zoom range equivalent to 38-114mm on a 35mm camera.
Again making waves in the digital camera marketplace, Sony innovates with the Cyber-shot DSC-N2. The camera's touch-screen technology allows for a clean body style (perfect for pockets) while enabling a much simpler user interface. Touch controls not only extend to the Sony N2's main menu functions, but also let you alter images in-camera with the Paint tool, and pinpoint focus exactly where you want it as you shoot, all with a simple touch of the screen...." |

| Review: "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2 ($450) is an update to the compact DSC-N1 from last year. From the outside, the only difference between the N1 and N2 is the body color. Inside the N2 you'll find a new 10.1 Megapixel CCD, up from 8 Megapixel on the N1. Along with the new sensor comes higher ISO sensitivities, with the N2 now able to go all the way up to ISO 1600.
All-in-all, the Cyber-shot DSC-N2 is a nice ultra-compact camera, and one that I can recommend to most people. If you take a lot of photos in unusual lighting conditions then I'd skip it, but for everyone else, it's a good choice. One shopping hint for you all: the "old" DSC-N1 can be found for $100 less than the N2, and it offers all the features you've read about here, save for the marketing-driven 10MP sensor and high sensitivity mode. If you like the N2, it might be worth seeking out the N1 instead to save some money." |

| Review: "Boasting 10.1 Megapixels, the Sony N2 becomes the highest resolution Cyber-shot compact camera to date, although it's not a great leap from the 8.1 Megapixels of its predecessor. Along with slightly higher resolution, Sony's also increased the sensitivity range from 80-800 to 100-1600 ISO, and to further differentiate the two models, selected a 'champagne' gold finish for the N2.
So like many new cameras this year, much of what’s best about the N2 was present in its predecessor, and while the N2 is capable of recording more detail, the difference between 8.1 and 10.1 Megapixels isn't great in practice. Ultimately the N2 is a gadget-packed, stylish compact that delivers great quality pictures at lower sensitivities, and as such comes Highly Recommended." |

| Review: "...This little camera isn't especially stylish, but its big, 3-inch touch screen and its 10-megapixel sensor make it an attractive little shooter as well as a worthy upgrade to the N1.The almost entirely touch-screen-driven control scheme results in a menu system that's finicky and awkward to use, and display that's not quite crisp or colorful enough to frame shots...
The Sony Cyber Shot DSC-N2 is a responsive, 10-megapixel shooter you can easily fit into your pocket. Unfortunately, compression artifacts hurt its images, and its touch screen controls feel awkward. The slightly smaller and more conventionally designed Canon PowerShot SD900 offers cleaner shots at the same resolution." |
