Review: "The PowerShot A550, Canon's new compact point-and-shoot camera, is a solid machine. It performs nimbly and produces pleasing picture quality. Still, there are a few areas where this shooter stumbles. The LCD is a little small and the price is a little high, but most users will be pleased anyway.
The A550 did very well on my resolution test, averaging 1,750 lines, excellent for a 7.1MP camera. It also had a decent boot up time, 2.8 seconds, but the recycle time was, at 4.8 seconds, too long in my book. As I mentioned before, I was very impressed with the camera's lack of shutter lag. There was very little lens distortion too - just a bit of the barrel distortion I usually see, and virtually no pincushion effects."

...Sure, the A550 has its drawbacks - but most seem to be connected to the price tag. The poor LCD resolution and boring design are shortcuts Canon took to be able to provide a standard digital camera for $199. With that in mind, the PowerShot A550’s pictures aren't going to blow anyone away, but it will serve basic point-and-shooters just fine." |

| Review: "Canon's PowerShot A550 is a simple, inexpensive 7-megapixel camera, and that's all it wants to be. While it has some nice features, it doesn't offer any outstanding, unique aspects that put it above any other camera in the field, and that's just fine. Good performance and solid images are all a camera needs to succeed, and the A550 delivers just that.
With quick performance and decent photos, the Canon PowerShot A550 is a solid budget camera. It doesn't have many special features and it's not particularly small or light, but it's a strong choice if you don't want to spend a lot for your snapshots." |

| Review: "The PowerShot A550 ($199) is one of the entry-level cameras Canon's A-series. Replacing the PowerShot A530 from last year, the A550 adds a larger LCD (2.0" vs 1.8") and, naturally, more Megapixels. Other features on the camera include a 4X optical zoom lens, point-and-shoot operation, a VGA movie mode, and support for SDHC memory cards.
The Canon PowerShot A550 is a very good entry-level digital camera, and one that I can recommend easily. I'm going to do something a little unusual, though: I'm going to recommend that you pay $30 more for its big brother, the PowerShot A560. Why? For the speed and improved photo quality of the DIGIC III processor, a larger/sharper LCD, longer movie record times, and a tool that ends the annoying red-eye problem that has plagued the A-series cameras for some time. Whichever camera you end up choosing, you'll get a well designed body, good photo quality, and plenty of point-and-shoot features (with a few manual controls thrown in for good measure)." |

While not as compact or stylish as the PowerShot ELPH cameras, the A550 represents a solid value in photographic quality and performance, offering photographers a number of distinct advantages. The suggested retail price of the Canon PowerShot A550 is $199.99, some $50 less than its predecessor, the A530.
As we've come to expect from Canon's A-series, the PowerShot A550 is a great little digicam. Fairly frill-free, the Canon A550 still takes great shots with its 7-megapixel sensor. It has a satisfying 4x zoom, and is quite easy to use. ...Its 7-megapixel sensor makes pictures that can be printed at 13x19 inches, quite an achievement at this price point. ..."
