Nikon Coolpix L6 Review
|
Review Summary
Review: "The L6 was launched last September alongside the CoolPix L5 that I reviewed last week. It is a basic six-megapixel, 3x zoom model with a 2.5in monitor screen. It is currently available for around £123, which might sound quite cheap for a good quality compact, but is actually slightly above the market average.
The Nikon CoolPix L6 is a well-made, sensibly designed pocket compact that would be ideal for holiday snaps or general snapshot photography. Its exceptional battery duration means that it won’t let you down when you need it, and the excellent image quality means you won’t be disappointed by the results. If you can live with the slow performance and lack of low-light ability then it is excellent value for money."

| Review: "Nikon's Coolpix L6 could be the poster child for a whole new generation of "back to the basics" digital cameras. The L6 isn't just easy to use; it also produces (in good light) dependably excellent 6 megapixel images. L6 purchasers will also love the bright, hue accurate, and fluid 2.5 inch TFT LCD screen and the sharp and contrasty 3X zoom. The L6 is an almost perfect traveler's camera - it's cheap, relatively tough, compact, lightweight, and it produces consistently excellent images. If all that isn't enough, the L6 features Nikon's Face Priority AF and automatic in-camera red-eye fix (for exceptional portraits), D-Lighting (which automatically lightens dark underexposed images), and it offers the best battery life of any camera in its class.
Overall, I'm very impressed with the Nikon Coolpix L6 - the camera is clearly designed to appeal to a specific target audience and it does a very good job of meeting the needs of that demographic. The camera is very user friendly and it consistently delivers surprisingly good images..." |

| Review: "....It has a 6-megapixel CCD sensor; a 3X optical, 38mm-to-116mm f/3.2-to-f/5.3 zoom lens; and a 2.5-inch, 115,000-pixel LCD screen. According to Nikon, the L6 can shoot up to 1,000 images on a pair of lithium batteries; the company even includes a pair of Energizer AA e2 lithium batteries with the camera.
While we were not pleased with the inability to select ISO, the Coolpix L6's biggest drawback is its glacially slow performance, especially with flash enabled. If you can get past the fact that you'll have to wait anywhere from 2.5 to 8.1 seconds between shots, and you like the idea of fully automated shooting, the Coolpix L6 could be a good choice. But your best bet is to spend a little extra cash and step up to a faster camera." |

| Review: "Beginning at the PMA convention in Florida last year, Nikon has been making a bold effort to breathe new life into its entry-level "L" series cameras. Nikon adds to this "Life Support" with the Nikon Coolpix L6, a slim-and-trim, budget-buster model that has the look, feel, and features of a more expensive camera. Though it has a six megapixel CCD imager, a Nikkor-branded 3x optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD display, and ISO sensitivity to a maximum of ISO 800 (though it's not manually adjustable), the real news on the Nikon Coolpix L6 is its extraordinary battery life.
...Despite its positives, I was disappointed in the image quality produced by the Coolpix L6, particularly its exposure issues, lack of sharpness, and struggles in low light. While the Nikon Coolpix L6 has a great design and a load of helpful features, there are other entry-level models on the market that simply take better pictures."
