Nikon Coolpix S9 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 4.75 (out of 10)
Review: "The Nikon Coolpix S9 is a small, slim and stylish digital camera with Nikon's distinctive "wave-surface" design and an all-metal body. Features include a 6 megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom lens equivalent to 38-114mm, whilst In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face-Priority AF and D-Lighting aim to intelligently improve your photographs. The Nikon S9 has a large 2.5 inch LCD screen with 170 degree viewing angle, great for showing off your images to friends and family.
The Nikon Coolpix S9 would make a perfect Christmas gift for the snap-shooter in your family, but if you're a more serious photographer you probably wouldn't rush out and buy one for yourself. The two words that best sum-up the S9 are "stylish" and "adequate". The "S" in Nikon Coolpix S9 stands for "Style", and this camera certainly delivers on that promise...."

Review: "The S9's design dispenses with the click wheel that Nikon includes on its S5, S6, and S7c. It's a shame, since the wheel provides quick navigation through Nikon's sleek, intuitive menu system. As with most slim, ultracompact cameras, one-handed shooting isn't really possible. The best you can do is to use two hands when changing settings, and then switch to one hand while pressing the shutter.
Overall, Nikon's Coolpix S9 is a decent ultracompact, but its lack of high ISO or image stabilization, as well as substandard noise performance make us think twice. If you're looking for a snapshot camera, you may be better served with something such as Canon's SD600 or SD630...." |

| Review: "Nikon continues to add to its popular S-series of Coolpix cameras with the new 6-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S9, a lower priced (and lower-end) model that keeps the attractive slim look of its predecessors while eliminating some noteworthy features. Retailing for $250 - about $100 less than what the Nikon S5 debuted at - the Nikon Coolpix S9 combines a prism-folded Nikkor ED-branded 3x optical zoom lens (38 - 114 mm in 35mm equivalent) with a six megapixel image sensor, a 2.5" LCD display, and 15 beginner-friendly scene modes.
...The camera's LCD, while large, lacked the adequate resolution to produce crisp live preview and decent image playback The camera was also a rather slow all-around performer and demonstrated noticeable shutter lag and poky shot-to-shot performance...." |
