Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.00 (out of 10)
Review: "(Updated 01/08/2007)The Canon SD800 IS Digital ELPH features a compact, stylish case with rounded horizontal edges, and a retracting lens to make it pocket-friendly. The Canon SD800IS includes a 7.1 megapixel imager, and a Canon-branded 3.8x optical zoom lens covers an optimized range of 28-105mm equivalent, a good wide-angle to moderate telephoto.
The SD800 is a very responsive camera, with low shutter lag in daylight conditions, and excellent shot-to-shot speeds. It also sports very good battery life, a very capable Movie mode, and excellent download speed. Finally, Canon makes a line of accessory lenses, filters, a slave flash for the PowerShot SD800 as well, greatly expanding your options beyond what you'd normally expect from a compact digicam model.....If you're looking for a good take anywhere camera with great versatility and good color and tonality, the Canon SD800 IS deserves a close look. No question, a Dave's Pick in its category."

| Review: "The SD800 IS (IXUS 850 IS), announced just before Photokina 2006 back in September, is a sister model to the popular SD 700 IS (IXUS 800 IS), one of the better ultra compact models launched last year. As well as an extra million pixels or so, the new model has one very welcome new feature; a 28-105mm (equiv.) zoom lens, making it one of the few cameras in this sector of the market with true wide angle capabilities.
So then, what Canon gives with one hand - the wider lens, better screen and other tweaks - it takes away with the other (reduced image quality). But the SD800 IS still has all the qualities I loved so much in the SD700; it's fun, reliable, has image stabilization, is built and styled beautifully and it produces attractive, punchy results without the need for manual intervention...." |

| First Impressions (Preview): "Debuting as the Canon IXUS 850 IS in Europe and the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS, the 7.1-megapixel digital camera comes with a host of new technologies. The new Digic III processor in the camera recognizes, tracks, and focuses on faces. Other components include a 3.8x optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD screen. Not to be forgotten is the optical image stabilization system that makes up the "IS" in the camera's name....
The 7.1-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD800 IS has a solid set of components overshadowed by its newer and trendier technology. Its better features include an improved 2.5-inch LCD screen, a wide 3.8x optical zoom lens, and a built-in flash that does not create terribly unnatural lighting."

| Review: "... the Canon Powershot SD800 / Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS is one of the newest Canon Digital IXUS cameras, and features a wide-angle lens, a first for a Canon Digital IXUS. The IXUS 850 IS is a 7.1 megapixel digital camera with a high resolution 2.5" screen, and a wide-angle 3.8x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation (this means you can take blure free photos in low light or when using the telephoto zoom). The 3.8x optical zoom lens is equivalent to 28 - 105mm on a 35mm camera.
The Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS is an excellent ultra compact digital camera - image quality isn't perfect - but it is very good with great color and detail. Throw in a wide angle lens to help get you get more of your friends in the photo, and then add optical image stabilization to help make sure your photos are sharp even in low light, and you end up with a cracking camera that you can take anywhere and use in almost every situation...." |
