Canon Powershot SD430 Wireless Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.00 (out of 10)
Review: "WiFi is the keyword for the Canon PowerShot SD430, also Digital IXUS Wireless in Europe, a palm-size 5-megapixel compact with a 3X optical zoom that can print wirelessly to a Canon PictBridge compliant printer, or transfer images to a wireless capable computer.
The Canon SD430 packs a lot of photographic power into a very small package. The SD430 offers a 5-megapixel resolution, a 3X zoom, a 2-inch LCD monitor and an optical viewfinder. More importantly, however, the SD430 captures very well-exposed, sharp and faithful images."

| Review: "Unlike other Canon PowerShot ELPH digicams, the SD430 "rocks." Stood on end like its cousins were designed to do, the Canon SD430 is actually resting on its slightly curved WiFi antenna. Following Nikon and Kodak into the WiFi-enabled digicam arena, the PowerShot SD430 offers a unique approach to shooting without cables, including its Wireless Print Adapter in the box for wireless printing to any PictBridge printer and offering wireless remote capture from your Windows computer. Canon built the SD430 with a 5.0-megapixel sensor and most of the basic features shared by its fellows in the SD lineup, but the big emphasis is on WiFi.
The Canon PowerShot SD430 is an impressive little camera, with super build quality, great image quality, and the flexibility to bring back good-looking pictures from a wide range of shooting situations. And when you get back, you can wirelessly transfer its images to a Windows PC directly or through a router and print to any PictBridge printer wirelessly with the included print adapter." |

| "With Wi-Fi networking integrated into most new laptops sold today and industry-standard add-on adapters available to easily upgrade older notebooks and desktop machines, the ability to use Wi-Fi to transfer photos from digital cameras is becoming an increasingly attractive option. Though not the first manufacturer to produce a consumer-level camera with wireless capabilities-Kodak and Nikon came to market before-Canon has created a boon for remote-shooting fans with its PowerShot SD430, a 5-megapixel ultracompact that is basically a PowerShot SD400 with a slightly different body and a built-in Wi-Fi transmitter." |

| "The Canon PowerShot SD430 Digital ELPH Wireless ($499) has the longest name of any camera I've reviewed. It also happens to be Canon's first PowerShot with built-in Wi-Fi technology, which allows you to send photos to your PC without touching a USB cable. You can transfer photos as they are taken, or later while reviewing them in playback mode. In the future you'll also be able to send photos from one SD430 to another. Canon also throws in a wireless printer adapter, which allows you to print wirelessly from the SD430 to any PictBridge-enabled photo printer.
Photo quality was very good. The SD430 took well-exposed photos with accurate color, good sharpness, and low purple fringing. Noise levels could've been lower at low ISOs, and they're not terribly useful at ISO 200 and above. Unfortunately, that's fairly normal for cameras in this class. Also normal is redeye - and there was quite a bit of that on this camera." |

| Review: "The pricey Canon PowerShot SD430 Digital Elph Wireless ($499.99 list) is the latest addition to the growing wireless point-and-shoot category. It joins the Kodak EasyShare One and the Nikon Coolpix P1 and P2. Like those models, the 5.0-megapixel SD430 lets you connect wirelessly (using 802.11b) to a computer, network, or printer. Overall, this compact camera offers a compelling mix of ease of use, cutting-edge features, and good image quality, but like the other wireless cameras I've tested, it's not quite worthy of an Editors' Choice award." |

| "Canon's first digital compact with built in Wi-Fi (wireless) control is here in the shape of the aptly named Digital IXUS Wireless. This camera features a 5-megapixel image sensor and Canon's proprietary DIGIC II image processor, the same processing power built into its professional D-SLRs.
If the Wi-Fi connectivity is critical for what you're going to be doing with the digital camera (and you're a Windows user) then the extra cash might be worth it. If Wi-Fi is not a particularly important then save your cash, the extra cost of the Wi-Fi will be surplus to your requirements so save your money." |

| Review: "A few weeks ago I reviewed the Nikon CoolPix P1, a sleek eight megapixel compact featuring WiFi connectivity. It's often the case that a new idea will appear almost simultaneously from several different sources, so it's no surprise that Nikon isn't the only company experimenting with wireless technology.
This week I've got the new Canon IXUS Wireless. As the name suggests it has a built-in wireless network device, which connects the camera to any computer that is equipped with a wireless network adapter, allowing quick and easy downloading of captured images.
Although it is very expensive for a 5MP compact, the Canon IXUS Wireless is an extremely high quality camera that is versatile but easy to use, and is capable of taking superb pictures."
