Canon Powershot A530 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.00 (out of 10)
Review: "The Canon Powershot A530 is what I would call a compact digital camera. It will just fit into a shirt or pants pocket at 3.56 x 2.52 x 1.70 in (90.4 x 64.0 x 43.2 mm) and 6.00 oz (170 g). Add about an ounce and a half to this for the batteries. It captures images at several resolutions, up to 5MP, has the familiar Canon PIC-mode selection wheel, and a 1.8 in TFT color LCD. It sports a 5.8 - 23.2 mm lens with a variable aperture range of f/2.6 - f/5.5. This is 35 - 140 mm in 35mm equivalence.
The Canon PowerShot A530 is a capable digital camera with a respectable zoom range. It is a good choice for a traveler both in size and power source as AA/LR6 batteries are readily available almost anywhere. Canon's choice of the SD/MMC memory card format is also a pleasant standardization."

| Review: "Though the Canon PowerShot A530 is a modest 5-megapixel step down from its 6-megapixel sibling, the PowerShot A540, it still has almost all of the same handy features. Unfortunately, it lacks the zippy performance and the large LCD that help elevate the A540 above the crowd.
Speed is really the A530's weakness. After a start-up time of 2.1 seconds-pretty typical for cameras in this class-and a brisk 0.5-second shutter lag in good light, the lag increases to a full second with the lights turned low. The A530 requires a painful 2.8 seconds between nonflash shots and a full 6 seconds between shots with flash. Even its continuous shooting proved surprisingly slow, averaging about 1.8fps compared to the A540's 2.3fps." |

| Review: "Announced by Canon prior to the Spring 2006 PMA show, the PowerShot A530 comes in just below the A540 model in its sensor and some exposure control offerings, but still offers a great deal of exposure control. While both cameras share the same 4x zoom lens (35-140mm equivalent) used across much of the PowerShot A-series, the Canon A530's resolution is 5.0-megapixels as opposed to the A540's 6.0-megapixel sensor for about $100 more.
Its combination of automatic and manual features make the Canon A530 very approachable for novices, but still interesting for experienced users, the net result being a camera that will satisfy a broad range of interests and provide a good path for novice users to expand their photographic horizons as their experience grows." |
