Fujifilm FinePix F30 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.00 (out of 10)
Review: "The FinePix F30 is yet another elegant camera from Fujifilm. Very compact and entirely metal-clad, while small the F30 has a solid feel and a noticeable weight that immediately speaks of quality construction.
With a 6.3 megapixel resolution and a 3X optical zoom, the FinePix F30 stands out from other recent Fujifilm cameras by its large 230,000 pixels, 2.5-inch LCD monitor which completely replaces an optical viewfinder and provides 100% coverage of what is being photographed.
The F30's strength lies in its ability to capture images at up to 400 ISO that compare very well with the 200 ISO images of other cameras. Moreover, the F30 yields excellent colours, and detailed, low-noise images up to 400 ISO."

| Review: "The Fuji FinePix F30 ($399) is the follow-up to the company's popular F10 and F11 models. Like those two cameras, the F30's claim to fame is its high ISO performance, which is unmatched in the compact camera arena. In fact, Fuji says that the F30 should do even better than those two - thanks to its improved SuperCCD HR sensor and image processor - and they've increased the maximum ISO to 3200 as a result.
It's not very often where I really become fond of a camera that I review. Usually this happens with expensive digital SLRs that I can only dream about. This time around, I fell in love with a compact camera - the Fuji FinePix F30. While it's not quite perfect, the F30 won me over with its great high ISO performance, battery life, LCD, and manual controls. It's a camera that I can recommend without hesitation." |

| Review: "There's nothing about the design of the 6-megapixel Fujifilm Finepix F30 ($340 street) that screams "look at me!"
It's your basic contemporary boxy rectangle 3x retracting-lens digicam. There's a nice 2.5 inch LCD on the back that gains up and down well enough on its own, along with a button to crank it up in sunlight. It's got a couple of buttons and knobs here and there in the typical places to control modes and settings. In short, it's very similar in design to so many other digicams on the market right now. But what's inside this camera differentiates it from all the other 3x rectangular boxes on the market - an ISO range all the way up to 3200(!).
The world is not made entirely of perfectly lit bright sunny days calling for ISO 100 - and Fujifilm deserves praise for pushing camera performance technology towards much more usable high ISOs in the compact market." |

| Review: " Decent performance under low light cannot be underestimated for a compact digital camera, as it's arguably where it will be used more than any other situation. After all, while compacts are perfectly good for capturing outdoor shots under bright conditions, many end up working hardest indoors or at evenings, photographing people in often relatively dark surroundings.
Here the F30 excels, offering very natural flash performance or even the option to shoot without the flash altogether thanks to unusually high ISO modes. Boasting a 3200 ISO option, the F30 offers higher sensitivity than any other compact and indeed many DSLRs too. It also inherits the Aperture and Shutter Priority modes of the European-only F11.
...while the F30 may not be the slimmest or sexiest compact, nor offer anything as glamorous as a touch-sensitive or flip-out screen, it does deliver great-looking photos under the kind of conditions most rivals would struggle. Its low light capabilities still lead the market whether you're shooting with or without the flash, and there's sufficient quality and creative control to keep most enthusiasts happy. We can confidently recommend it to anyone." |

| Review: "The Fujifilm FinePix F30 is an ultra-compact 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 2.5" screen. The camera has the ability to take photos at ISO 3200, while most ordinary digital cameras stop at ISO 400. The 3x optical zoom lens is equivalent to 35 - 105mm on a 35mm camera.
The Fujifim F30 is an impressive compact 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 2.5" display. The camera is one of very few to include ISO 1600 and ISO 3200 modes. It has excellent responsiveness and is designed to be able to take great photos in almost every situation." |

| Review: "The Fujifilm Finepix F30 is the latest digital camera on the market to prove there's more to a great camera than just megapixels. Though the F30 has a very nice 6.3MP Super CCD HR sensor which takes vibrant images in daylight conditions, that's only a small part of the story. Fuji has been wise to emphasize the F30's range of excellent low-light options, its beautiful 2.5-inch LCD, and its superior battery life while marketing this camera because these are features that will genuinely improve someone's picture-taking experience." |

Review: "The Fujifilm FinePix F30 is primarily aimed at the ordinary consumer. It is an easy to operate digital compact camera. The high sensitivity is very important for the typical user of the Fujifilm F30. Many photos are taken at parties, or indoors. Who hasn't seen the murky results that this can produce? Of course, flashes help, but only to a certain extent. Due to the high sensitivity, you will need to use the flash less often and this will give you more natural looking pictures. If you need to use the flash, background light still plays an important role thanks to the high sensitivity of the sensor. The pictures will then look much better.
To cut a long story short, the Fujifilm FinePix F30 digital compact camera is not only an attractive, well-made camera, it is also nice to work with and gives super results. Fujifilm has a well ordered range on offer, and with the Fujifilm FinePix F30 it has come up with a digital camera that will be appreciated by a broad public. I'd recommend it any day." |

| Review: "The Fuji Finepix F30 is an exceptional ultra-compact digital camera which delivers high-quality images with incredibly low image noise. This is the first non-SLR to produce usable images up to ISO 3200, enabling new photographic opportunities. Even more than its predecessor, the F30 is a great camera for indoor photographs due to its high-ISO capabilities, its ultra-compact size and very durable battery life.
The main two downsides of the Fuji Finepix F30 is the strong presence of chromatic aberrations at all focal-lengths and the lack of an optical viewfinder. However, the LCD is still bright enough to make it the subject's shape in direct sunlight and the brightened mode does help. In the end, there are not enough reasons to choose any other ultra-compact digital camera over this one. For a little less money, the less friendly but slightly better built Fuji Finepix F10 is an excellent alternative which is just a bit noisier and surprisingly does not suffer as much from chromatic aberrations." |

| Review: "The F30 looks superficially similar in both size and shape to the F11, which it will most likely replace in Fuji’s range, however the style of the body has been completely reworked, with smoother, rounder lines, a nice two-tone brushed-steel colour scheme and an undeniable air of class about it. The body is all metal and the fit and finish are extremely good.
The Finepix F30 is a stylish, efficient and easy-to-use compact camera with excellent picture quality, a useful range of features and outstanding performance, but even these qualities are overshadowed by its amazing low-light performance. It has easily the best high-ISO picture quality of any compact camera on the market, and is perfect for shooting pictures at any social occasion. While not exactly cheap, it does offer unique abilities that you won’t find anywhere else."

| Review: "At first glance the Fujifilm Finepix F30 is a pretty ordinary compact digital camera; 6 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD screen, all in a conventional metal and plastic body. Take another look at the specifications, though, and you'll find out why the Fujifilm F30 is worth a second look. It offers a fastest ISO speed of 3200 at full resolution, allowing you take more natural photos in low-light conditions without having to resort to flash.
The Fujifilm Finepix F30 builds on the strengths of what was already a great camera, the Finepix F11, and delivers a compact camera that has no rivals in terms of low-light performance. If you want a digital camera that can easily cope with indoor and low-light shooting, then the F30 is the one for you - currently no other compact digicam comes close at ISO 400 and above, and the F30 also delivers perfectly usable photos at ISO 800 and 1600." |

| Preview: "The Fujifilm FinePix F30 was announced at the Photo Marketing Association Trade Show, nearly a year after the F10 that it replaces. The F10 had many great features including a 6.3 megapixel Super CCD that produced little noise even with the camera’s ISO 1600 setting. The new F30 has the same 6.3 megapixels of resolution, but has it on a sixth generation 1/1.7-inch Super CCD and pairs it with a second generation Real Imaging Processor. Fujifilm claims that with these new components, the F30 has 25 percent less noise than the F10.

| Review: "Fujifilm has spent the last couple of years getting in touch with its sensitive side by ratcheting up the usable sensitivity range of its digital compact cameras. The pinnacle of this work is the company's new FinePix F30, which includes a range of ISOs from ISO 100 all the way up to ISO 3,200. In the film world, you could get ISO 3,200 only with black-and-white film, and it had grain that was affectionately referred to as "golfball size" by many photographers. While noise at ISO 3,200 is extreme, the F30 keeps imaging artifacts under control below that point, making for a breakthrough as digital compacts go." |

| Review: "The FinePix F30 offers a tantalizing glimpse of how very different compact cameras would be if all manufacturers put as much effort into developing sensor and processing technology as they do into designing and marketing pretty cameras with features no one ever asked for. Our tests show that the F30's sensor gives you at least a two-stop advantage over the best that conventional CCD technology can offer, and in many cases a three-stop advantage, with ISO 800 output that can rival some cameras at ISO 200.
To sum up, the F30 is far and away the best low light compact camera on the market today, bar none. It's the perfect 'social' camera for the DSLR owner who doesn't want to lug all his or her gear to parties, and it is - in expert hands - capable of superb results in any light. I would even go as far as to suggest - funds permitting - getting one for low light work even if you already own a camera you use for daylight shooting..."
