Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.33 (out of 10)
Review: "The Sony DSC-W70 is a near-twin (triplet?) of the Sony W30, and Sony W50, which we have also reviewed. The W70 has the larger 2.5-inch LCD display of the W50 (the W30 has a 2.0-inch display), and the W70 also increases the image resolution to 7.2 megapixels, versus the 6.0 megapixels of its lesser siblings.

The Sony DSC-W70 is an impressive offering, much like the rest of the W-series in the Cyber-shot line. It is handsomely constructed, with a feel of quality, is uncomplicated to operate, has good battery life, and is compact enough for most pockets or purses. Its ample LCD screen and quality lens should give most users a great experience capturing pictures they'll be proud to display."

Review: "The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70 is an excellent, very compact performer. The 7.2 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom, nice 2.5 inch LCD, and "Stamina" battery life produces good images and excellent battery life. About the size of a deck of cards, it's easily pocketable and still performs well indoors.

The W70 is a great camera for someone looking for a stylish camera that takes good pictures under a variety of conditions. Outdoor shots are very good and the camera has good indoor performance. The excellent LCD and ease of use also make this a very attractive camera to photographers who don't need a ton of features. Sony chose wisely on which modes to include and kept the list down to just enough, but not too much to easily change with the mode dial."

Review: "Aside from its 7-megapixel sensor, the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W70 is physically and functionally identical to its series brethren, the 6-megapixel DSC-W50 and the 8-megapixel DSC-W100. And just like its siblings, the DSC-W70 delivers a pleasant snapshooting experience-with the photos to match-making it a good choice for many casual and vacation photographers. However, photo artifacts will disappoint pickier shooters, and the deft finger work needed to manipulate its tiny controls may frustrate others.

Although the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W70 is a decent enough camera, both the DSC-W30 and the DSC-W50 are probably better values than the DSC-W70. Because they're lower resolution, the photos are a bit softer, but they also produce significantly less noise than the DSC-W70."
