Nikon Coolpix S6 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 10.00 (out of 10)
Review: "Nikon Coolpix S6 is a slim and stylish compact digital camera with a distinctive "wave-surface" design. The Nikon S6 is one of the few cameras to offer built-in Wi-Fi, which means that you can transfer pictures straight to your computer or a compatible printer without the use of cables.

The "S" in Nikon Coolpix S6 stands for "Style", and this camera certainly delivers on that promise. The Nikon S6 is one of the most distinctive point and shoot compact cameras on the market today, with an overall style that is subtle yet pleasing. The large 3 inch LCD screen is a joy to use, and the rotary wheel on the back of the camera echoes the Apple iPod."

Review: "Nikon's new Coolpix S6 takes Style and merges it with Slim to create a very capable stylecam that you can take with you everywhere. Sporting a 6.2 megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom with ED glass, the slimline Nikon CoolPix S6 also incorporates WiFi.

It's an eye catcher, no doubt. The wave design brings the soothing S-curve to camera design. With no buttons or levers protruding from it, it's easily slipped into a pocket so it's with you when you want to take a picture. And when you light up that 3.0-inch LCD with your images, it's even more attractive. Especially when you ask it to throw an impromptu Pictmotion presentation together."

Review: "The Nikon Coolpix S6 is dressed in a sand-textured metallic black body, highlighted by rich-looking chrome sides. The camera is flat on the back, but has a slight wave on the front to accommodate the internal 3X zoom. Although it offers a 6-megapixel resolution in an ultra-thin body, the Nikon Coolpix S6 stands out for two other features: a 3-inch LCD monitor, and built-in WiFi that allows the camera to hook-up to either a wireless access point, or directly to a wireless capable computer.

The Coolpix S6 may well attract the attention of technophiles because of its flat and elegant design, its high resolution 3-inch LCD monitor, its 6-megapixel resolution, and in particular, because of its cutting-edge wireless capability. But, by the same token, we feel that the focus given this model may well be too much on technology. For, while it is capable of turning out good photos, it offers little room for growth, or experimentation, with what should always be the primary function of a camera: photography."

Review: "The Nikon Coolpix S6 ($400) packs a lot of features into a slim and stylish package. You'll get a 6 Megapixel CCD, 3X zoom lens, huge 3-inch LCD display, Wi-Fi support, and more - all in a camera that fits in your smallest pocket. Other features include in-camera redeye reduction, a VGA movie mode, and an enhanced slideshow feature with music and transitions.

Overall I was a bit disappointed with the Coolpix S6. Sure, it looks cool, and some of the features are really handy. But the bottom line is that photo quality is not as good as other ultra-compacts, and it has more flaws to boot."

Review: "Announced on the 21st of Febuary 2006, the Nikon Coolpix S6 is an ultra-compact 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens and a large 3" screen. The camera even has built in Wi-Fi support so that you can transfer photos wirelessly to your computer. The 3x optical zoom Nikkor lens is equivalent to 35 - 105mm on a 35mm camera.

Image quality is hit and miss with this camera, it can produce some excellent colours, and very good macro photos, with low noise at ISO 50, however, outside on bright sunny days, when you would expect the camera to be performing it's best, it sometimes seems to be performing it's worst, with noticable vignetting in corners, generally soft images, soft corners, and soft sides down the left and the right."
