HP Photosmart R927 Review

Review: "In digital imaging HP is best known for its inkjet printers. Yet the company has over a half-dozen digital cameras meant for casual picture taking. While not targeted to Ansel Adams wannabes, better HP Photosmart digicams more than do the job for the vast majority of photographers. We were big fans of the now discontinued 5MP HP R707. That model is long gone, replaced—and then some-by HP’s top-of-the-line R927, an 8.2-megapixel point-and-shoot camera with a 3x optical zoom. What really sets it apart is its 3-inch LCD screen, one of the largest you can get. The camera has a number of other pluses and minuses.
Anyone looking for a compact, attractive 8MP point-and-shoot digicam should give this camera serious consideration. Although the R927 had some flaws, the large LCD screen, the great menus, the built-in special effects and—most important- the photos it took put it on the plus side of the ledger. Still for the next go-around HP engineers should figure a way to juice up the time it takes to save a shot. And for God’s sake, put a video out on the supplied dock rather than forcing buyers to shell out another $80 for an accessory."

| Review: "The HP Photosmart R927 is a compact, 8 megapixel camera that manages to combine impressive specs-3" display, 3x optical zoom, and 8x digital zoom-with an easy to use interface and solid design.
The HP Photosmart R927 provides a vast array of options and capabilities neatly packaged into an easy to use device. It's solid enough for advanced use, and easy enough that someone with no prior experience can pick it up and go. All in all, I'd call it a very worthwhile camera for the money, whether you're looking for a simple and effective means of snapping a few casual pictures, or you're an hobbyist wanting more powerful equipment without sacrificing usability." |

| Review (Updated 11/09/2006): "The HP Photosmart R927 is one of this manufacturer?s most feature-rich digital camera models with 8.2 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom lens, and a 3-inch LCD screen. The R927 has a range of manual and automatic modes and controls, along with an on-screen user guide. This digital camera has HP?s Real Life technologies that help to remove red-eye and fix lighting and such. There are also interesting in-camera editing features that can do everything from discolor a photo to slim the subject down. The HP Photosmart R927 retails for $399.
The HP R927 takes the lead of the Photosmart fleet of digital cameras with 8.2 megapixels and a slew of manual controls and in-camera editing effects. The R927 has a lot to offer: a 3-inch LCD screen, a Design Gallery menu in playback that has dozens of picture effects, and extensive on-screen directions that beginners will find helpful...." |

| Review: "The HP Photosmart R927 ($399) is a compact 8.1 Megapixel camera filled to the brim with unique features. When I say "features", I'm not talking about the R927's 3X zoom lens or huge 3-inch LCD. Rather, I'm talking about the various bells and whistles on the camera, many of them exclusive to HP. They include Adaptive Lighting (a kind of "digital flash"), Image Advice (tells you how to improve your photos), in-camera panorama stitching, an elaborate help system, and much more.
Photo quality turned out to be the R927's weak point. While the camera took well exposed photos with vibrant colors, I was disappointed with the amount of noise and purple fringing on my photos. While these issues won't make a difference if you're making 4 x 6 inch prints, you will notice them in 8 x 10 prints or when viewing them onscreen." |

| Review: "Most digital cameras come with the assumption that the user has at least some knowledge of photography-but not HP's Photosmart R927. Sure, it's the 8-megapixel flagship of the company's camera line, but with a menu and help system that's every bit as slick at its sculpted, brushed-aluminum casing, the Photosmart R927 doesn't require you to know anything to get started with this camera. As in the past with some HP cameras, we were less than satisfied with its image quality. Still, very casual snapshooters will likely be pleased with the R927, especially if they're just getting into photography, but discerning users will be disappointed with the final output." |

Review: "The HP Photosmart R927 is refreshingly simple to use but won't frustrate the more advanced photographers either.
With an 8.5-megapixel resolution and 3x optical zoom, the R927 sports just a few buttons on the camera to adjust focus, flash and scene settings.
Photo quality was very good and, because of the high resolution , printing at A4 is possible. An unusual but helpful feature is the built-in image analysis option, which offers feedback on the photos you've taken and how to improve your technique." |

| Review: "The latest flagship to be launched in HP's Photosmart camera line is the R927 which not only boasts 8.2 megapixels, it features an array of unique functions and helpful in-camera tips designed for beginners.
Though image quality on the HP R927 would not please a more advanced photographer - which is disappointing considering that it has an 8.2MP imaging sensor - entry-level users may be able to overlook this deficiency since this sleek but rugged camera has a lot to offer in the way of ease-of-use, in-camera editing and helpful real-time photography advice. If you want to print anything over 4x6 or plan to shoot in less than ideal conditions, this digital camera is not recommended for you." |
