Canon SELPHY CP-710 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 9.00 (out of 10)
Review: "The Canon Selphy CP710 is among a few printers to come across the desks of PrinterSpot that fits in the palm of your hand. It's a "compact" printer with a very small "c". And its optional rechargeable battery (NB-CP2L) makes it extremely portable.
The Selphy CP710 is a dye-transfer (AKA dye-sublimation) photo printer, similar to the popular Kodak printer docks. Why choose a dye sub printer over an ink jet? Typically dye sub photos appear smoother (and more like a photo lab print) without the dot patterns found with some ink jets.
The Canon Selphy CP710 is the Mini Cooper of printers: small, stylish, and fast. In fact, it is the fastest compact printer we've tested thus far: outperforming both compact dye subs and ink jets. Image quality is also good. Even with its miniature form factor, it produces impressive photos."

| "The Canon Selphy CP710 Compact Photo Printer ($149.99 direct) is a step ahead of any other thermal-dye based, dedicated photo printer in its price range. It's a bit faster than the rest of the pack, it prints on a variety of paper sizes up to 4 by 8 inches, and most of its output qualifies as true photo quality. But the icing on the cake is a low cost per photo that turns the CP710 into a near bargain if you print enough photos." |

| Review: "...In this crowded field, the competition is heated (no pun intended) and the results depend on whether you're swayed by quality, speed, cost per print or extra features. The first three of which are, frankly, indistinguishable, while the last continues to astonish.
The SELPHY CP510 and CP710 can print trouble-free 4x6 prints (and even 4x8 panoramas) from your computer or directly from your PictBridge or Canon Direct Print-capable camera. The CP710 adds a card reader and LCD to navigate the card's contents."

| "Canon released the SELPHY CP-510 and SELPHY CP-710 in the fall of 2005. They are both small dye-sub printers, the major difference being that the CP-710 has a memory card reader built in. They are both compatible with the NB-CP2L battery pack for portable operation. The optional BU-20 Bluetooth adapter unit enables wireless printing from devices that support the Bluetooth standard, such as some camera phones.
For those wanting 4x6 prints from an easy to use and portable printer, the CP-510 ($95) and CP-710 ($145) are good choices. They are small enough and light enough to carry in your camera bag if you're going to an event and want to proof images on the spot. The prints are waterproof and fingerprint resistant which is something that may be very useful if you're printing pictures at an a party, plus they can be sent through the mail as postcards. You do need AC power unless you buy the optional Li-ion battery pack." |
