Pentax Optio T10 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 6.63 (out of 10)
"With the announcement of the T-series, Pentax has released a point and shoot digital camera with new and innovative features which will surely separate it from the competition. The Pentax Optio T10 is the first in the T series, a series title which connotes the camera’s unique touch screen interface. The T10 has a 2.5-inch, 230,000 pixel touch screen interface with an included stylus, as well as an impressive 1/2.5 inch, 6 MP CCD with a primary color filter.

With a 2.5-inch touch screen interface, intuitive menu design, quality navigation, simple construction and a durable exterior, the $350 initial price tag is sure be attractive to users who have been waiting for a touch screen that both works and is purchasable at a reasonable price level. The camera includes a handful of manual control options, all with live view, and control over images in postproduction which can lead to amusing photo alterations of a Friday night out with the boss."

Review: "he Pentax Optio T10 is a very thin camera — it measures less than 2 cm (0.8 in.) in thickness — very compact, but still equipped with a 3X optical zoom that retracts completely into the body. Moreover, it is equipped with a 6-megapixel CCD, and more uncommon, with a 3-inch touch screen.

The colour rendition of the T10 is excellent with outdoor subjects that are well lit. Saturation is pleasing, producing bright but subtle primary colours, resulting in blue skies, for example, that show a delicate gradation and crisply defined clouds.

To date, the Pentax Optio T10 is only the second camera we have tested to offer a touch-screen monitor. Yet, the touch-screen offers a clear advantage over other cameras that feature a small size and a large screen but which still try to fit the usual controls in a smaller space. With the touch-screen, all necessary controls are available, fitted comfortably on the monitor, making the camera much easier to use. And this, combined with a generally very good image quality, should place the T10 at the foreground."

Review: "The Pentax Optio T10 was introduced in the month of the PMA 2006, and proved an instant eye-catcher. The impressively large 3 inch screen takes up a sizeable part of the camera's back side, which distinguishes itself by the absence of the, for instance, well-known multi controller. The type of monitor that we find on the Pentax Optio T10 is in fact rather surprising; a touch-screen with a resolution of 230,000 pixels.

The image quality of the Pentax Optio T10 is convincing, and offers an excellent colour rendition. The light metering does as it should, and produces a very decent exposure. The white balance encounters virtually no trouble where your average daily subject is concerned. It is only when working with a surplus of fluorescent light that you need to jump in to filter the colour cast. "
