Hands-On Preview: "The Cyber-shot DSC-S600 is Sony's new entry level addition to its Stamina line of digital cameras. Announced at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in January, this point-and-shoot model offers 6 megapixels and basic features at a low retail price of $199.95.
he Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600 is the new flagship model of Sony's low-end Stamina series of digital cameras. Even though its reasonable $199 price reflects a low-end status, the S600's features are more typical of pricier models. For instance, the S600 has ISO 800 and 1000 settings that make it a good candidate for low light photography. The camera also has a flash that reaches to an unprecedented 36 feet."

| Review: "The Sony DSC-S600 is a recent entry-level model in Sony's highly popular line of subcompact digital cameras, featuring a very pocket-friendly design. Offering a high-resolution 6.0-megapixel CCD, a 3x optical zoom lens, and a nice range of seven preset Scene modes to choose from, the Sony S600 is a capable, yet very compact, digital camera.
...we found its contrast levels a bit high, to the extent that it tended to lose detail in strong highlights and shadows when faced with harsh lighting. Some consumers will like the "snap" that the high contrast gives its images, but we suggest that you check out our test images for yourself, to decide whether you're a member of that group or not." |

| Review: "The chunky, 6.7-ounce Sony Cyber Shot DSC-S600 offers remarkable flexibility despite its bargain price. Its 6-megapixel resolution and moderately wide 31mm-to-93mm (35mm-film-camera equivalent) lens, in conjunction with pretty decent low-light photos and extended shutter-speed latitude in moderate light, combine to produce a point-and-shoot camera with enough versatility to handle most picture-taking situations."

| "Available since late last year, the Sony DSC-S600 is a great indicator of 2006 consumer price trends. For $199, you get a 6-megapixel compact point-and-shoot camera with a 3x optical zoom from a well-known brand. No, we're not talking about Concord, DXG or Vivitar but a top-tier company. Depending on the survey du jour, Sony is considered among the top three worldwide.
The DSC-S600 is not quite a blister-pack camera you'll find at Wal-Mart but it's pretty close. Why Sony eliminated the video out to a television boggles the mind. Perhaps the engineers thought every person buying this $200 camera has a sleek Sony flat screen TV with Memory Stick slots. Wrong. Maybe they will over time but not today. That said the DSC-S600 with its uneven performance is for novices looking for a bargain." |

| Review: "Offering a 6-megapixel resolution and a 3X Carl Zeiss optical zoom, the Sony DSC-S600 is an excellent example of how affordable digital cameras are becoming. The DSC-S600 has classical lines, and its body is entirely made of a strong silver-finished plastic. When powered on, the zoom lens extends only 4mm (0.16") past the front of the camera, maintaining its compact size.
...the Sony DSC-S600 represents real value for money, and should enjoy a great deal of well deserved interest at this time of the year when the holidays are fast approaching. While some savings have been made to position the S600 at this price point, in our opinion the image quality was not sacrificed..." |
