Fujifilm FinePix F470 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.19 (out of 10)
Review: "Positioned in the lower echelons of Fujifilm’s F-series, the FinePix F470 has a retail price of $279 and a stripped down style that emphasizes simple controls and a basic point-and-shoot aesthetic.

Unfortunately, other than the F470’s substandard construction, there is little to the camera that is really noteworthy. If consumers can find the F470 at a much lower price point than its similarly spec’d competition, its shortcomings may be worth overlooking; however, if features and performance are more essential, consumers should take a second look at the competition before purchasing."

Review: "The Fujifilm FinePix F470 is the latest in a long line of slim digital cameras from Fuji, and at first blush there's nothing in particular that separates this model from the dozen or so others out there with similar feature sets. Not quite as svelte as Fujifilm's stylish Z1 and the soon-to-be released Z3, the 3.6 x 2.3 x 0.8-inch F470 has a 6-megapixel CCD sensor, a 3x optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD, and ten scene modes. There's nothing truly revolutionary here, but that's not always important. What is important is the Fuji F470's utility.

If you're looking for a slim, reliable camera that won't cost you an arm and a leg, the 6 megapixel Fuji F470 might be just right. Though it doesn't come with a lot of bells and whistles (and precious little manual control), the five-ounce F470 is a great "take anywhere" camera."

Review: "The F470 is a 6 megapixel camera with a 3x, f2.8-4.9 optical zoom. It has a 2.5 inch LCD which takes up a good 2/3 of the camera's back. The battery is a Fuji proprietary format and comes included with the camera. Also included with the camera is 16MB of onboard memory. If you need more (and you will), the camera will take xD memory.

Surprisingly, the F470 is one of the slower cameras that Bytesector has seen in the past year or so. From turning it on to the time you take the first shot, you will have to wait about 2 to 3 seconds. In addition to this, the shutter lag is just average, and focus time is fairly slow as well. Because of this, the camera proved to be unwieldy for action shots and close to useless if I had only a few seconds to turn on the camera and fire off a shot.

Review: "At 0.8-inch thick and weighing less than five ounces, the Fujifilm FinePix F470 is suitable for one-handed shooting. It sports a fairly standard 35mm-to-105mm-equivalent zoom lens and a fine 115,000-pixel, 2.5-inch LCD screen. The display has a ghost-reducing 60fps refresh rate and a backlight boost that keeps it viewable under direct sunlight. The sunlight-friendly LCD is a welcome feature, especially since the F470 lacks an optical viewfinder.

The Fujifilm FinePix F470 is a decent digital camera, but nothing sets it apart from the countless other compact cameras out there. Its standard feature set and middling image quality make it just another camera on the shelf."

Review: "Hidden in the secret innermost recesses of the digital camera world is a tiny group that likes very compact cameras - cameras so small that they weigh in at one ounce (or less) for each megapixel of resolution. The diminutive Fujifilm Finepix F470 could be the poster child for this club - it weighs 5.5 ounces (with battery, memory card, and wrist strap) and produces 6 megapixel images.

Like Fuji's legendary Finepix 2600, the stylish little F470 is a very basic digital camera and an excellent choice for first time digital camera buyers who want a reasonably priced, genuinely uncomplicated, solidly built, and ultra-compact digital camera. The eminently pocketable little F470 performs like a champ in all outdoor settings, making it a natural choice for casual photographers, snap-shooters, and weight/space conscious backpackers, mountain bikers, and rucksack travelers."

Review: "The Fujifilm FinePix F470 is ultra-compact, with a pleasant design, and very good build. Its features are basic and will mostly appeal to point-and-shoot photographers who desire an easy-to-use and staightforward take-anywhere digital camera that gives very good results. It's slim enough to slide into your jeans pocket.

The Fujifilm FinePix F470 produces very good image quality. Exposure metering is accurate, and colours are very pleasing. It is mostly a sunny take-anywhere digital camera which is point-and-shoot simplicity to use."
