Pentax Optio WPi Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.25 (out of 10)
"If you are looking for an easy to operate digital camera, you will make the right choice when choosing for the Optio WPi. The camera isn't equipped with real manual settings, but still offers an abundance of auto possibilities. The built-in intelligent software offers creative users sufficient tools to get more out of the camera than the standard snapshot. The structure of the camera seems logical. Compared to its predecessors not a lot has changed; the increase of resolution from 5 to 6 Megapixels is the main alteration. Is it necessary? Of course not, but the digital evolution can't be stopped, so 6 Megapixels will become more of a standard than on previous generations.
Personally I enjoyed working with the Pentax Optio WPi. The waterproof housing makes photographing in and on the water a real pleasure. In practice, handling the WPi camera is easy and delivers fine image quality. The resolution suffices to print some enlargements whenever you feel like it that can be edited in the camera prior to printing. The Pentax Optio will appeal to the average user and its water- and dustproof features make the camera interesting for use during holidays or weekend trips in and around the water."

| "This is the second year in a row that Pentax has launched a camera that can take photographs underwater, and once again my review sample has been sent in the middle of winter. Pentax knows that I'd get into a lot of trouble if I tried taking pictures in my local swimming bath, so the only way I can get any underwater sample shots is to risk an extremely unpleasant death from hypothermia and frostbite by braving the near-zero water temperatures in a river or the sea.
If you have a camera-killing lifestyle but enjoy taking pictures, then the WPi is the ideal solution. It is well made, looks superb, handles well, has reasonably good image quality and can survive and take pictures in conditions that would destroy any other camera. There's nothing else on the market like it." |

| Pentax has created the Optio WPi, a waterproof dustproof camera for all occasions. But has the camera got what it takes to help you snap a good shot and stay safe? We take a closer look.
With the ski slopes beckoning, you'll need a digital camera that is going to serve you well and not get damaged when you stack it in the powder. Of course we aren't expecting Pocket-Lint readers to be anything but perfect skiers or boarders, but you never know.
Overall a very good camera that will appeal to the adventure-seeker. If you find yourself in situations that warrant the sudden drowning in water or large amounts of dust the OptioWPi is just the thing for you. |

| "Whether you're heading to the beach to escape the cold or hitting the ski slopes to enjoy some winter sport, you'll want to have a digital camera with you to capture the memories. What you don't want is ocean water or slushy wet snow getting into that digital camera you take and rendering it useless. A waterproof camera would be perfect in either scenario; enter the Pentax WPi 6.0 Megapixel camera - designed to resist water and dust so that it's "lifeproof" and keeps on working in rain, snow, or dust storm!
Overall the WPi is a very good point-and-shoot camera that will appeal to everyone from the adventurous type to families that like to take pictures not just by but in the pool while on vacation. The ease of use and generous 6.0MP resolution all at a price point of about $300 make this a very attractive digital camera option." |
