The FZ3 is one of the smallest 'super zoom' digital cameras on the market, its twelve times optical zoom lens carries the Leica badge and has a constant F2.8 aperture, it's also got image stabilization (very important on super zoom lenses). | On the whole, I was favorably impressed with the Panasonic DMC-FZ3, although personally think that the somewhat more capable 4-megapixel FZ15 is a better value, despite its $100 higher list price. The FZ3's all-plastic case keeps the camera light, but also leaves it with a slightly cheap feel in the hand. As with the FZ15, the FZ3's biggest limitation is a very slow shutter response, although its shutter lag when "prefocused" by pressing and holding down the shutter button prior to the shot itself is amazingly fast, and the camera is also quite fast from shot to shot in its continuous-shooting modes. |

| The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ3, is available for around £260 - the Lumix FZ3 is a fairly compact 3 megapixel digital camera, with an impressive 12x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 35-420mm on a 35mm camera), and a 1.5" TFT screen. The camera is enclosed in a silver plastic body. It records unlimited 320 x 240 / 30fps videos with sound. The camera's quite compact for an ultra zoom with the following size: 108 x 68.4 x 84.8 mm. (without protruding parts), and weighs 290g (without the battery and memory card)

| The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ3 is an attractive SLR-shaped camera with 3.1 effective megapixels and a 12x optical zoom lens. At a retail price of $399, this camera is one of the cheapest offered models carrying image stabilization. This is a great option to have when stranded without a tripod or when shooting with the FZ3’s 320 x 240 movie mode. The digital camera employs a 1/3.2-inch CCD with 3.34 total megapixels and a primary color filter along with a strong, Leica 35-420mm (equivalent) zoom lens. The silver-colored camera is designed with simplicity in mind, but still has plenty of manual control options available. With nice touches like the diopter adjustment and color temperature adjustments on the white balance, the Lumix FZ3 is sure to please intermediate to advanced digital photographers. The FZ3 doesn’t shut out beginners though. It also has a Simple Mode that automates all of the controls except image size, marketing the camera to an array of users of all levels. |

| The Panasonic DMC-FZ3 is one of two recently released cameras - the other being the FZ20 - that are equipped with 12X zooms and image stabilizers. The design of the FZ3 has much in common with the FZ20. Like the FZ20, the body of the FZ3 is dominated by the lens, and aside from the bright metal lens trim, the body is composed of a polycarbonate that is offered in either a silver or black finish. In many respects, the DMC-FZ3 is a sibling of FZ20. The FZ3's body is smaller and a bit more basic — for example the non-slip grip area is limited to a patch on the front of the grip area - and some of the features found on the FZ20, such as an accessory shoe, are not included. |

| One of the best ultra zoom cameras in the last year was the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10. It featured an F2.8, 12X optical zoom with image stabilization, a 4 Megapixel CCD, manual controls, a hot shoe, and more. In Summer 2004, Panasonic introduced three new ultra zoom models: the DMC-FZ3, DMC-FZ15, and DMC-FZ20. The FZ15 ($499) and FZ20 ($599) are successors to the FZ10, offering 4 and 5 Megapixel CCDs, respectively, while the FZ3 ($399) is a compact model with 3.2 Megapixels. I'll be looking at the entry-level FZ3 in this review.
