Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm DX ED VR Lens Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.02 (out of 10)
"This 18 - 200 VR is the perfect lens for people who only get to take one lens. Most people will never need anything more. It's the "desert island" lens, and the perfect lens to grab when you have no idea what you're going to see. Personally I love wide angles and usually use my 12 - 24 mm most of the time as my "one lens," so it will be interesting to see which lens spends the most time on my camera.

It's a miracle. It works just great! Even the distortion, usually a weak point on super zoom lenses, is easy to fix in Photoshop if you care."

Review (Summary): "... With its hugely useful 11.1x focal length range, 'silent wave' focusing, and Nikon's second generation vibration reduction system to combat camera shake, this lens aims to be the ultimate single-lens 'walkaround' solution, which photographers who wish to travel light can simply leave on the camera all the time. ...

... Just occasionally, the old cliches are still the best, and with the 18-200mm VR the phrase 'jack of all trades, master of none' springs immediately to mind. It's a lens which delivers somewhat flawed results over its entire zoom range; where it's sharp, it has heavy distortion, and when that distortion comes under control at the long end, it loses sharpness. Its close-up performance is reasonable, but not spectacular, and overall it will likely be outperformed optically by a cheaper combination of standard and telephoto zooms. ..."
