Fuji Film FinePix S7000 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.67 (out of 10)
I recently had the opportunity to test Fujifilm's new 6 megapixel digital camera. My first impression was this it was larger than I expected. Then I held it as if I were going to start shooting with it right away, and it felt very familiar. Though it is smaller than a compact 35mm SLR, it felt like I was holding the SLR that I had been shooting with for years.

| S7000 Zoom was announced by Fujifilm at the end of July this year and marks the fifth generation of Fujifilm's top-end prosumer digital camera. The camera looks almost identical to the S602 Pro Zoom which was announced in November 2002 (it was a subtle update of the S602 Zoom).......... |

| The Fujifilm FinePix S7000 Zoom is intuitive to use, and it is easy to obtain great images in Programmed Auto mode. With 6x optical zoom, 6.3MP resolution, full exposure flexibility, and beautiful colour reproduction, the S7000 provides an easy-to-use entry into the prosumer category

| The Fujifilm FinePix S7000 is the replacement for the S602 and, at a glance, the only noticeable difference between this model and the one it replaces is that the body of the S7000 is uniformly black.
The body design and the position of the controls are retained with the S7000, and therefore its ergonomic design is unchanged.
The changes in the S7000 are mostly internal, ranging from a new Super CCD HR to a new high resolution electronic viewfinder.

| Folks who have been waiting for a replacement of the venerable Fuji FinePix S602 Zoom have really had their patience tested. The S602 was one of the sleeper hits of 2002, with its 6X zoom lens, high resolution SuperCCD sensor, full manual controls, and VGA movie mode.
Fuji took the S602, added a new 4th generation SuperCCD sensor, and called the result the FinePix S7000 ($799). Like its predecessor, this new 6.3 million pixel SuperCCD HR sensor can interpolate to a higher resolution -- in this case 12.3 million pixels! The S602 had a 3.1 million pixel SuperCCD sensor, capable of producing images with 6.2 million pixels.

| The Fujifilm Finepix S7000 has a large, beautiful LCD screen located on the back panel of the camera body. However, I was disappointed with its construction. Although the screen is high resolution and allowed me to see the images clearly, it is a fixed screen. I have been in many situations when I needed to swivel the screen in order to get the shot. For example, when shooting in a crowd while holding the camera over my head, a swivel screen makes things much easier. |
