For busy families on a budget who need one printer that can print two-sided text and image pages (using special double-sided photo paper) and crank out 300 sheets between refills, the Canon Pixma iP4200 should fill the bill. A versatile performer, this four-color inkjet includes automatic duplexing, decent text output, bordered or borderless color prints, and dual paper trays that make it easy to alternate between paper stocks.

| The Canon Pixma iP4200 Photo Printer ($129.99 direct) represents an evolutionary step forward from the iP4000 and iP3000 that it replaces in Canon's line. Compared with the iP4000, the iP4200 is less expensive, faster for business applications, and offers more longevity for photos. Alas, photos earn a quality rating a touch lower and take a little longer to print than they did with the iP4000, but the overall balance of features makes for an impressive package. |
