Corel Paint Shop Pro X Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.50 (out of 10)
The popularity of digital capture has forced image editing applications to add features that address common photographic problem areas, such as barrel distortions, chromatic aberrations, low light noise, RAW file compatibility, work with EXIF information, amongst many others. Paint Shop Pro X boasts many new features specifically for the digital photographer and at a price point that would make it seem like a bargain.

Review: "Not long ago Corel purchased Paint Shop Pro, and now Version X is the first to incorporate some contemporary capabilities from Corel's reservoir of development of high-performance graphic arts applications, including PhotoPaint, which they acquired some years ago from Zsoft. Some of these more contemporary capabilities include support for raw digital camera file conversion with RawShooter Essentials developed by Pixmantec in Denmark. A more professional image quality capability has been assured by the current support of 16 bit per RGB channel editing adjustments.

The program is also good for those new to image manipulation. In addition to a very affordable price, Corel has added on-screen access to a Learning Center to quickly familiarize the beginner with how Paint Shop Pro X's many tools and processes function.

With both a training CD bundled with the application and a comprehensive, easily accessed learning support inside the application, beginners and even those with experience can gain a full range of editing and adjustment skills. Perhaps the most surprising thing about a program with this level of sophistication is its modest price. The list price for Corel's Paint Shop Pro X is $129 and is offered currently on their website for $99 and $59 as an upgrade for previously licensed users."
