Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T7 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.50 (out of 10)
The Sony DSC-T7 may well hold a record for thinness in a 5-megapixel camera that still includes a 3X optical zoom. But this very thin design is at the expense of places to hold the camera, and using the T7 requires a bit of practice to get used to where to hold the camera and still operate it. And even then, with the lens in the corner, fingers still occasionally stray into the field of view.

| Sony Cybershot DSC T7 digital camera preview : During the CeBIT 2005 show, we came across the new Sony Cybershot T7, a digital camera with an exceptionally thin housing. Beside the ultra-thin appearance it's amazing to see how Sony succeeded in equipping the Sony T7 with a 3x optical zoom! Although the CeBIT 2005 show in fact has become an inferior version of what the CeBIT used to be, still the presentation of new products and innovations remain to stay on a high level. It's a welcoming surprise that Sony introduced a digital camera like the Sony Cybershot T7 just before the CeBIT kicked off. The Sony Cybershot T7 is really thin. You really notice it when you take the digital camera in your hand for the first time, simply amazing! When we talk about a life-style product, an eye-catcher or a digital jewel, then all these words describe the new Sony T7 digital camera. The design seems to have matured.

| The T in T7 must stand for tiny: This camera is only 5/8 of an inch thick, and it's only a few millimeters bigger than a credit card in height and width. It's got a nonextending f/3.5 to f/4.4, 6.3-mm to 19 mm (38 mm to 114 mm in 35-mm equivalent) 3X optical zoom lens that's hidden behind a sliding lens cover, which also turns the camera on and off. You frame shots using the gorgeous 2.5-inch LCD, as the T7 has no viewfinder. It uses Memory Stick Duo Pro and takes an InfoLithium battery, which lasts for ages in the field. |

| Sony's latest digital compact is even smaller than the last. Following in the footsteps of the T3 and T5 models, the DSC-T7 promises great photographs from an ultra thin body, but can it really achieve what it promises. Pocket-lint was one of the first to find out. |

| The Sony DSC-T7 is Sony's latest subcompact Cyber-shot model, a device that we can safely say is like no other. Sony digital cameras span the full range of price and performance, and Sony enjoys a leading position among digital camera manufacturers, but the Sony T7 breaks new ground in slim camera design, and it will not go unnoticed in the market. Sony's Cyber-shot T7 is a truly full-featured digital camera, with a 5 megapixel CCD, a 3x optical zoom lens, a huge 2.5-inch LCD screen, and a full complement of options such as variable ISO settings, color saturation, contrast, and sharpness adjustments. Automatic exposure control offers point-and-shoot ease, with a handful of scene modes for more difficult shooting situations. Its diminutive profile has forced some interface compromises, including an external charger, a dock that offers no connectivity, and an unusual Interface Adapter to enable image offload and A/V out. Read the review below for the details. Be warned though: Be sure you really want this camera before you go into a store to hold it, because to hold a Sony T7 is to want one!

| Thinner and lighter than any other camera in Sony's T series, the 5.1-megapixel Cyber Shot DSC-T7 will appeal largely to the fashion-conscious snapshot photographer. Beyond its ultraslim design, other strong points include a large LCD, speedy performance, and easy operation. Unfortunately, its image quality doesn't match the T7's more attractive attributes. |

| The new Cyber-shot T7 is just over a third-of-an inch, making it Sony's thinnest, fully-featured model yet. Though small in stature, the camera packs a powerful punch. It has a 2.5-inch 'hybrid' LCD screen, covering about two-thirds of the back of the camera, which is perfectly sized for framing, displaying and sharing pictures. |
