Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.00 (out of 10)
The 4-megapixel, 3x-zoom DSC-P73 is a fairly impressive upgrade to last year's P72 model, including a higher-resolution CCD, and greatly expanded features, all for a lower introductory price than the P72 carried.

Sony's DSC-P73 offers a 4.1 megapixel resolution and a 3X zoom lens packaged in a smooth and rounded silver plastic body at an attractive price. The DSC-P73 and its twin, the DSC-P93 which is a 5-megapixel version, incorporate some of the new features introduced by Sony this year, but avoid some of the more expensive touches of the costlier cameras such as a Carl Zeiss lens, a metallic body, or a large LCD monitor.

Fairly priced, the 4.1-megapixel Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P73 offers snapshooters all the basics with a splash of manual options. Several new features clearly differentiate it from its predecessor and keep it on a par with its 5-megapixel sibling, the DSC-P93.

With its easily recognizable and attractive Cyber Shot design, the DSC-P73 is small enough to slide into a pocket or a purse. However, such portability often comes with some sacrifice. In this case, it's a small 1.5-inch LCD with status icons that only those with keen eyesight will be able to decipher. The menu, on the other hand, is bright, clear, and readable. The optical viewfinder is tiny and slightly distorted, but it's fairly bright.
