If HP improved the image quality and added a few manual controls, this would be the camera to beat. While other camera manufacturers are developing things like "image roulette" or putting tiny 6/7/8 Megapixel sensors into their cameras, HP's engineers are developing things that people actually need, like in-camera redeye reduction, image advice, photo undelete, and easy photo sharing. I hope the competition is taking notes.

| The HP Photosmart R707 is the flagship model in HPs new range of digital cameras that was first announced at the end of August 2004. Only the older HP Photosmart 945 sits above it in terms of specification and price. With a stylish brushed aluminum front and matt black rear, the R707 is sure to turn heads in your local camera shop. Inside is a 5 megapixel sensor and a number of cutting-edge technologies, the most notable being HP Adaptive Lighting, which automatically adjusts high contrast photos to reveal detail in the shadow areas. Even better, the HP R707's price has recently fallen, with a current price tag of just £150 / $250 - amazing value for a 5 megapixel camera. | The Hewlett-Packard Photosmart R707 is a totally new camera, part of the R-series. It is one of 2 recently released R-series cameras, the other being the R606, a model with a lower resolution. The HP R707 offers a 5.1 megapixel resolution and is equipped with a 3X optical zoom. The fit and finish of the R707 is impeccable, and the body has a clean, modern design.

| HP's 5-megapixel Photosmart R707 "point and shoot" offers good image quality and decent performance in a boxy, pocketable body. You'll also find a few useful and unique innovations for non-experts in this easy-to-use camera.

| The latest offering in HP's brand new R-series is the HP Photosmart R707. A sleek and classy 5-megapixel camera with a modern design and stylish exterior. However, the R707 does much more than just take pictures. With its three times optical zoom lens and a range of advanced in-camera features, it is meant for photographers who want a point and shoot camera but who at the same time are looking to further improve their photography skills. |

| At press briefings during PMA 2004 HP staff quietly admitted they had finally realized that the company's digital cameras suffered from something of an 'image problem'. Big, seemingly designed to resemble a house brick, and made from the kind of materials normally found only on the dashboard of a 1980's hatchback, the Photosmart range simply couldn't compete with the slick, shiny and keenly priced Far Eastern offerings. From now on, we were told, HP cameras would be designed for style, speed and ease of use, and would no longer be twice the size of their direct competitors....... |

This is the first Hewlett-Packard camera to incorporate a powerful digital signal processor from Texas Instruments with the latest imaging algorithms designed to deliver accurate focus, exposure, and color. | The Hewlett Packard Photosmart R707 digital camera is the latest in a long line of Photosmart-branded digital cameras aimed at making digital cameras more accessible and easier to use. Early on, HP got their start in the digicam market partnered with Pentax, but soon stepped out on their own. The HP R707 keeps the familiar "camera-like" design of past models, but builds on it with a sleek new body and user interface, and a boatload of new features aimed at improving ease of use. | HP's Adaptive Lighting is the silent partner in this camera, and it works well. Picture elements often come out too light or dark, especially where sunlight plays havoc with the auto-flash sensor. If a face is too dark because of sunlight behind it, Adaptive Lighting brightens it up. Likewise, the camera knows how to mellow out the flash so that people's faces don't get whitewashed, as happens all too often in other cameras. |
