Samsung SPP-2040 Dye-Sub Printer Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 7.75 (out of 10)
Samsung already has a good name for its laser printers and now adds itself to the list of manufacturers producing a photo printer based on dye sublimation technology. Its SPP-2040 is a direct competitor to Canon's Selphy CP-500 and appears to use the same printer engine and consumables.

| "The Samsung SPP-2040 Photo Printer being put through its paces in this PCSTATS review prints 4"x6" glossy photo's via the dye sublimation process directly from any of six common flash media formats, incorporates a folding 2" colour LCD screen for previewing images, and can connect directly to PictBridge-enabled digital cameras.
The dye sublimation printing processes is the closest you can come to photo-lab-quality results at home. With traditional photo laser and inkjet printing methods, images are made up of individual coloured dots. Yet when these printed materials are examined closely, the dots don't add up to a very realistic photograph.
By and large the Samsung SPP-2040 is really handy tool for anyone who yearns to take the "digital" out of some of their most cherished photographs. It prints 4"x6" glossy images by the dye-sublimation process, resulting in digital photo prints with a quality on par to the photo-lab. The Samsung SPP-2040 photo printer retails for around $150USD ($170CDN) and comes with a 10 print starter pack included." |

| "The Samsung SPP-2040 Digital Photo Printer ($150 street) is the third dedicated photo printer we've seen recently for essentially the same price (the other two are the Canon Selphy DS810 and CP710 Compact Photo Printer). As with its direct competitors, the SPP-2040 offers features that are quickly becoming standard for the price: a 2-inch previewing LCD, and the ability to output from computers, PictBridge cameras, and memory cards. You'll get excellent speed and high-quality photos, but cost per print is higher than we'd like and you're limited to 4- by 6-inch paper." |
